Hello, I am new to this list & my interest is in the family of Alexander Hamilton, a weaver of Kilmalcolm born about 1790 & married Ann WILSON in 1820. They had 4 children, Mary (1821) Robert (1823) Alexander (1826) and my GGGrandfather William Cunningham Bontine born 27/1/1832. I suspect my question is of the "does anyone know why the sky is blue" variety but I'll ask anyway. As the family were simple weavers & their first 3 children were baptised with only one name, why would my gggrandfather have been given such a long one? I can find no other reference to Cunningham or Bontine in either side of the family before or alongside this. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Val Brisbane Aust
