    3. Val, I happen to have the OPR from Scot's People on your family. One of my Stevenson offshoots is at the top of the page. I remember seeing Alexander's name and wondered if the family was related to the Cunnigham/Bontine Grahame line. This was a prominent family in Renfrew of which Robert Bontine Cunninghame Graham is rooted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Cunninghame-Graham and someone who I have read many years ago. Robert Cunnigham and Bontine Grahame Francis Jane Speirs (that's a mouthful) of Kilmacolm were married about the same time as yours. All their children carried the Bontine Grahame name. One could speculate the two families might be related or perhaps your family was simply returning some sort of kindness by naming one of their son's after this family. And although I can't answer your question, I suspect you'll be doing a bit more digging. Cheers!!! They had 4 children, Mary (1821) Robert (1823) Alexander (1826) and my GGGrandfather William Cunningham Bontine born 27/1/1832. I suspect my question is of the "does anyone know why the sky is blue" variety but I'll ask anyway. As the family were simple weavers & their first 3 children were baptised with only one name, why would my gggrandfather have been given such a long one? I can find no other reference to Cunningham or Bontine in either side of the family before or alongside this. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
