Brian, As was mentioned, no your aren't going blind. The Newspaper Index was created years ago, while Leslie Couperwhite was the head librarian. It was a lot of work to create originally and getting it online is just as much work. Have to have a bit of patience (which we all can lack at times, goes with the hobby/obsession of genealogy). In a few cases, if the surnames I need isn't available yet but I know the name of the spouse, in the case of marriages, then I will check for an entry under the other surname. I'll even use the Find to search for names of properties or farms, as they are sometimes mentioned. That can also lead to finding cousins, half siblings or step siblings.
