Thank you to Nivard, Eva and Johan for your assistance with my query regarding the distance between Greenock, Renfrewshire and Ardrossan, Ayrshire. I now know that my great-great-grandparents could either travel by boat along the shore, or even walk that distance! I live in Canada and had no idea what the mileage was between the two places. The Old Largs Road from Greenock to Largs winds due south past the Whinhill Golf club, then wends its way to Loch Thom and thence to Largs, coming into Largs by Brisbane Glen Road. You can trace it on any good online map. Hope this helps.
