John Stevenson was born 17 April 1785, first son of John Stevenson and Jean Wilson of Oldbarn (Auldbarn) or Old Barn, Neilston (very near to Caldwell Tower).  For some time I have believed that John was married to Jean Wark and family links made me more confident about this.  However I have recently found the death of John, widower of Jean Wark in 1870 in Renfrew, Renfrewshire at the home is son in law Andrew Bennie.  It names his parents as John Stevenson and Jean Wylie.   So does anyone know what happened to John Stevenson b 1785 in Neilston?
