Hi Assuming that you've proved that the informant Andrew Bennie is the son in law of the John Stevenston who was married to Jean Wark (eg by finding the death cert of his wife Jean/Jane Stevenson) then you need to chase up both the John Stevenson born in 1785 in Neilston to John S and Jean Wilson and the John Stevenson born in 1777 in Dunlop Ayrshire to John Stevenson and Jean Wylie. In the 1870 death was the age consistent with being born in 1786 or 1777? Where did your John give as his birthplace in the censuses? There's 83 year old John Stevenson still living in Dunlop in 1861.
