    3. Rosemary - You can check immigrant shipping and bounty immigrant ships on the NSW State Records website. There are several James Allison's arriving but none in 1840. Perhaps you need to look to several years from the time of marriage in Scotland. The website is www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/indexes-online You can search for the name it may have been spelt differently as well and then you can view the digital copy online free.
