Hi Michael, I've researched the Poor Relief records at Paisley Library and don't recall seeing any entries for Govan, but you could ask them at http://www.paisley.org.uk/attractions/library.php It's also a while since I worked on Poor Relief records at the Mitchell, but it must be worth asking them about the earliest Govan records. You're right about Govan having been part of Renfrewshire before being assimilated into Glasgow. The same happened in parts of what is now the south side of Glasgow, but it's my understanding that when they all came under Glasgow, their records were transferred too and eventually the surviving records finished up in the Mitchell. If neither Paisley or the Mitchell holds them, it's likely they've been lost a long time ago.
