Brian, i have no direct connection to George Ludovic Houston, rather an in-direct one. My g/grandfather came to Australia in 1852 and in 1872 he sold a property he owned called "Iverton" to "George Ludovic Houston Esq. of Johnstone Castle for the sum of 120 pounds stirling". I assume that the property was in or near Johnstone. The letter to my g/grandfather from the solicitor, a Mr Barr of 5 County Place, Paisley, is dated "18th Dec. 1872". All that remains of Johnstone Castle is the Keep, the surrounding land was apparently sold off or acquired for housing after WW2. Chopin apparently stayed at the castle while teaching the piano to Houston's wife or daughter. My father's second given name was "Iverton" - after the property.
