Hi Noeline and Listers, How many HAMILTON families were in the Greenock/Port Glasgow area in the early 1800s? I have traced my HAMILTONs back to County Tyrone, Ireland where they were linen weavers, through 2 generations in Port Glasgow where they were connected with shipyards and from where my gt grandfather, a mariner, left for New Zealand. It would be interesting to find a connection with yours. Here is ours in brief: Andrew HAMILTON/CAMPBELL, linen weaver, Co Tyrone, Ireland James HAMILTON/HENDERSON farm labourer b 1757, Ireland, d 1855 Port Glasgow Robert HAMILTON/DARROCH. farm then shipyard labourer b 1799, Ireland, d 1876 Port Glasgow Robert HAMILTON/BLAKE mariner b Port Glasgow 1833. d 1882 New Zealand (Master Mariner) http://www.kosmoid.net/roots/hamilton for the whole thing Best Wishes, Jane Kiwi in Scotland > From: "P & N Farley" <farleys@xtra.co.nz> > Subject: [SCT-RENFREW] STEVENSON William - HAMILTON Hannah: Greenock > To: <sct-renfrew@rootsweb.com> > Can SKS please make suggestions as to where I can try and find the missing > information on William's birth and death details and Hannah's birth > details? > > William and Hannah married 13.6.1812 Middle/New Parish, Greenock. > Hannah bn c1796 died Greenock 1861 (widow of William). > They had 10 children some being William, James, John, Archibald, Robert > (my g/g/father) bn 1825, Ann Barclay.
