Good morning, everyone. I am visiting Port Glasgow this coming Monday or Tuesday to see if there are any buildings at all dating from the late eighteenth/early nineteenth centuries when the Crighton family lived there. I know there are no family gravestones and where they had a shop (corner of Lyons Lane and King Street) is under tarmac! However, perhaps the Presbyterian church or a pub or two from that time might survive? Very grateful for any suggestions. Clare in Oxford, UK
Betty Sorry, the images of the births of James Stewart DINNELL and Ralph Alexander DINNELL are NOT available to download (for privacy reasons). You would have to send off for the birth certificates (£10 sterling each). And just to update on my other previous message, I think the Sarah DINNELL mentioned may well have been divorced. There was a marriage registered in the St Rollox district of Glasgow in 1933 between a George G DINNELL and Sarah MCALEER. I couldn't find a birth between 1909 and 1911 for a Sarah DINNELL on the index. Betty Further to my earlier message, I have found a Ralph DINNELL born 29 April 1939 coming on an 8 week visit from the US to the UK (to 12 Rockfield Road, Glasgow) in 1955 on the RMS Saxonia. He was accompanied by Sarah DINNELL born 13 April 1910 and Moyra DINNELL born 2 May 1934. Their country of future permanent residence was the US but they were still British citizens. Sarah DINNELL is listed as 'single'. [I found these 3 arriving in New York on the 'Ascania' on 30 December 1952, bound for 151 Washington Park, Brooklyn. Sarah was once again listed as 'Single']. They returned to the US on the 'Scythia' in March 1955, bound for 11 Washington Park, Brooklyn, New York. In 2002, a Ralph A DINNELL was living at 265 Lynn Street, Harrington Park, New Jersey. He had been living there since at least 1993. (US Phone and Address Directories on Ancestry.com). Rhoda
Hello Betty The Scotlands People death index has the following names: James McKee DINNELL, death registered 1940 in the district of Townhead, Glasgow, aged 38 James Stewart DINNELL, death registered 1940 in the district of Kelvingrove, Glasgow, aged 0 (birth registered 1939 in Paisley, Renfrewshire). Jane Hardie STEWART other name DINNELL, death registered 1950 in Paisley, Renfrewshire, aged 46. The Scotlands People birth index has the following names: James Stewart DINNELL (as above) Ralph Alexander DINNELL, birth registered 1939 in the district of Townhead, Glasgow. (those are the only 2 DINNELL births registered in Scotland between 1936 and 1941) I am unable to find the name Ralph DINNELL on the marriage or death indexes. The images of all 5 registrations may be downloaded from the site at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk . It is a pay site, and searching for, and then downloading, these would cost you 30 credits to the value of £6 sterling.
