    3. Hi, I don't know if we've been in touch. I have Gemmells from Paisley in my family. Andrew Gemmell and Ann Walker married 1834 Paisley High had 3 boys: Robert, Andrew and William. Their baby Mary b. 1841 apparently died between 1841 and 1851 as did the father, Andrew. The 3 boys all joined regiments. The 1st 2 were Gordon Highlanders, the last, William was a 7th Dragoon. I just got all their military records. Gemmell/ Grant: "Alexander Gemmell & Janet Grant, both of this Parish. 3 days. Booked 27th. Married 16th. Feb. by the Rev'd Walter Blair, Paisley." This is recorded in January 1827. Paisley High records. 1. [Renfrew] Jeanie ADAM - Census?
    2. Lois McNaught
    3. Hi All, Am wondering if someone with access to the census for 1861, 1871 or 1881 could look to see if there is a Jeanie ADAM. She was likely under 18 years in 1867. She may be living with a McNAUGHT, COOPER, or BRISBANE family, likely near George Street in Paisley. She was to inherit the assets of her uncle Walter McNAUGHT, a weaver who died in 1867, when she became 21. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Lois McNaught

    2. Ken & Julie Dufault
    3. Moira, It is possible that the christening was not recorded, or the volume it was written in is lost (fire or damp). I don't know if the Scotlandspeople index has other than Church of Scotland entries, like the IGI. Have had no luck with locating anything on Euphemia Currie, who married James Beith about 1804. She died before Statutory registration, so no death info or census entries. The only reason I have a birth date for my ggg-grandfather, Douglas Hunter, is it was recorded in the family Bible that has survived. He was born on 27 Feb 1828. His birth/christening can not be found in the IGI, Scotlandspeople and I have checked with the GRO. Only reference to his father was his marriage entry, to his first wife. He listed his father as G. D. Hunter, seaman. So, very possible his parents were not married. But he doesn't give his father's name on his next two marriages nor is it given in his death entry. We have the same problem with Douglas' maternal grandfather, Robert Hunter, no birth or christening date, no parents, no clue where he was from. All we can say about him is that we know he died prior to the 1841 census. We do have the marriage entry for Robert Hunter to Isabella Ross, but Greenock was not recording even the name of the grooms father in 1805. There are just some people that will remain surrounded by brickwalls. Can only suggest checking with the National Archives for Scotland to see if they my have non-Church of Scotland OPR's for Paisley. Julie Dufault Merrimack, New Hampshire, USA

    3. Can any kind lister help me? I have a Marion Currie born 1826-7 according to both census entries and her death certificate. Her death certificate lists her parents as William Currie (no occupation given) and Isabella McLay. A grandson has Mclay as a middle name. Clearly the informant believed his information and may be correct. My problem is I have drawn a blank with these parents. Scotlandspeople has no record of their marriage nor of a marion currie born to them in the appropriate timeframe and I can find no other children of the marriage. census entries say she was born Paisley. Now I have a Marion born the near right year to William Currie and Janet Forsythe in Dalserf, but I dont think this is right, I did wonder if William was widowed and remarried but William and Janet are still married in 1841 and the sibling names dont fit my family well. Before I do more digging on scotlands people or fly to Paisley to try and sort it out I thought I'd see if anyone else recognises Marion or her parents William Currie and Isablla McLay. any one link? Moira
