Hi there, Cathcart was originally under Renfrew, therefor if Crosshill was part of Cathcart it may well have been included. There is also a Crosshill in Ayrshire between Maybole & Dailly. Dear Ron You can go to web site http://www.multimap/com/map and enter in Crosshill. You will find that there is a Train Station there and motorway junction M8 junction 20 is 2.1 miles away and it is from Glasgow airport 9.8 miles. I also had a relative whose home was in Queens Park Avenue when he died so I have looked up the address on the above site. Delma Adam
I was curious about this Crosshill since you say Crosshill, Renfrew. The only Crosshill I know of is in the south side of Glasgow. I`m not sure what area it would come under since its currently between two main roads - Victoria Road which didn`t exist 1881.( It was a previous road renamed after a visit from Queen Victoria to the city sometime after this census. ) and Cathcart Road. It may have come under Cathcart district in this time period. The nearest area which does appear on modern maps is Govanhill. In a message dated 4/7/03 9:24:48 AM GMT Daylight Time, quigbg@shaw.ca writes: > Is Greenock Scotland considered to be in the "Highlands of Scotland"? > No it's not. Geographically the Highlands are bounded by a fault line running diagonally across Scotland from Stonehaven south westwards. Although the line would run close to Greenock the fact that it is on the south bank of the Clyde makes it quite definitely Lowland. Irene

I wonder if someone could help me.. I am trying to get information on my maternal grandmother. My maternal grandfather was Alexander MacLeod who died November 1943 in Gourock. Is there anyway to look up an obituary to see how his wife name was listed and also his children. My parents are deceased and I have no other way to find out. My mothers name would be listed as Elizabeth Orr (married name). She had a sister, Nan and a sister, May and a few brothers. Would it be listed in an old newspaper?......any help would be appreciated., Thank you, Penni in the USA...
I have located a person of interest on the 1881 Census, listed as born in Crosshill, Renfrew. Searches of old maps have not revealed this place, so I'm hoping some kind person with local knowledge can tell me if Crosshill was a hamlet, parish or ? and does it still exist? Regards, Mary McLaren B.C . Canada

I am looking for someone to do genea. research - probably to do w/records around Port Glasgow. Does anyone know of some researcher who might be interested? Would appreciate any assistance. Juanita Patterson Mobile, AL jjuanitapatterson@cs.com
Hi, I have used Kirstie Holt for research. She is good and reasonably priced. The last address I had for her was kmholt@blueyonder.co.uk If this doesn't work just type her name into google and you should get the current email address. She had done a lot of work for us and we think she is just great. She is in Edinburgh but researched Perth, Angus and Renfrew for us. She even went so far as to send us pictures of our ancestors home in Renfrew.
