    1. Re: [Renfrew] Carruth/Campbell/Shaw - "Mariners" web address
    2. Jackie, I think around the Renfrew area - this based on the fact that they lived near a port, and there were stone quarries around there. Hugh Young Jr. stated on his passport that he departed Scotland from Grennock. Doesn't necessarily mean he lived ther tho. Thanks again for your interest. Juanita

    2. Hi Moira - no I don't know when he was born - his son was born 1834 (this according to son's death cert, but I think he lied about his age). However, HY Sr. 's death would have been around 1845. I know this is thin information, but I do keep butting my head against the brick wall! Regards, Juanita

    3. Hi there, yes I'd be happy to look for him. On past evidence I'd expect there to be about thirty with his name, of whom half would be Scottish, some will have put Scotland, some Renfrewshire and maybe some would have put Glasgow! Do you have a date of birth for him? I haven't had a chance to go thru my Carruth reference info but I will and see if anything matches up. 3. Hi there, I know now the archive only includes seamen still at sea in 1918 (however old they were then). If any of your names fit that category then I'm happy to look. however if they are earlier i'm sorry but they wont be there. 1. Re: [Renfrew] Death in Paisley Help Needed
    2. Jack Mills
    3. Hello Trevor, The 2 main Paisley cemeteries used at present are - HAWKHEAD - opened 1891 - to date nearly 79,000 burials. (Hawkhead Road, Paisley) WOODSIDE - opened 1845 - to date over 76,000 burials (now mainly cremations) (46 Broomlands Street, Paisley) For burial information, contact - Hawkhead Cemetery Records, Environmental Services Dept., South Building, Cotton St., PAISLEY, PA1 1UG, Renfrewshire, Scotland. (Tel. 0141 840 3504) Woodside Cemetery & Crematorium, 46 Broomlands St., PAISLEY, PA1 2NP, Renfrewshire, Scotland. (Tel. 0141 889 2260 or 0141 889 9283) They can give the exact Section & Lair No. in the cemetery, but only if the name & date of death is known - there's no name index. However, if the name of the Lair Owner is known, they can find details of a particular grave. With my own queries, the staff in both places have at all times been very courteous and helpful. Jack

I have been to SRO several times (costing $$$) - evidently they lived in an area where the parish registers have not yet been inclused at SRO. Does any of this sound familiar to you? 1. [Renfrew] Renfrew baptisms Auckland NZ
    2. Donna Aitken
    3. Hi folks I have been off list for a while but thought I would post these baptisms from St Paul Presbyterian Church in Auckland in 1849. These were families that were first imigrants from ships from Greenock from the early 1840's when Auckland was just a beach and volcanic mountains. They would have come from boats such as the "Duchess of Argyle" and the "Jane Gifford" both left Greenock in early 1842 ariving Oct 9th 1842. There will be lots more- this is only 2 pages of the register- my rellies were McIntosh and Munro. I could see if I can transcribe more if anyone is interested, or want me to do a look up. The Auckland Minister of this time was Rev John F. CHURTON. The baptisms without his name were baptised in Scotland and placed on the Auckland register: PAGE 13 MCINNESS: Thomas born May 22 1836, Baptised July 11th by Revd James LANG " Anne ' Mar 25th 1829, Baptised April 23rd by Revd P LEARY " Bridget ' Aug 3rd 1832, Baptised Aug 19th by Revd Dr ADAMSON Children of Lachlan MCINNES, born March 1798, baptised by Rev Donald MCKINNON MCINTOSH; Marion born May 1842, Baptised by Revd Mr BREWSTER, Paisley " Peter " Dec 1845, Bapt by Revd Mr CHURTON " Daniel " March 1847 " " " " " " Janet " April 1849 " " " " " Children of James McIntosh, from Paisley, Scotland and Christina MUNRO his spouse. 3. Hi Juanita, Web addresses were never designed to be user friendly, they are strictly for computers to hassle with!! You shouldn't ever need to work it out on your own keyboard, just click on the address I sent you, i.e.: http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/ which will take you to the site, after which you can bookmark it as a favourite. All done without you ever having to take the trouble of typing it out yourself. If you want to send it to someone else, then just use the 'copy' facility, don't try to retype it. HTH Brian

    2. Jackie Thorpe
    3. Hi again Juanita, I was reading thru some recent postings you made. This is strange. I have Carruths from Paisley, who were originally from Houston & Killellan, Renfrew. I also have a Carruth/Campbell cousin connection (that I haven't quite pieced together yet). In another closely related family line, I have a William Shaw who married into the family. We have a lot of names in common, don't you think. I haven't made it back as far as you yet, my dates, so far, are 1850-1900's. Any of this sound familiar to you? Any of your Carruth or Campbell's have a connection to Houston & Killellan or Paisley? Jackie Scottsdale, Arizona USA
