Seeking any leads on my gg grandpa James WEBB b. c1831 in Greenock. Father John Webb, poulterer, is listed in post office directories 1834 and 1841 as at 51 Shaw St. In 1841 Scottish Census, there is one John Webb, aged 40, (so born around 1800) a ``general dealer'' in Shaw Street. Under ``whether foreign or whether born in England or Ireland," it has I for Ireland. James' mother may have been named Susan. James Webb migrated to Australia 1853 or earlier. Married in Anglican Church to an Irish Catholic, Ellen Sullivan. _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail now available on Australian mobile phones. Many Thanks Olive BC Canada
Hi there, My wife was born in Thornliebank. She remembers there was a Mrs Love stayed through the wall at 18 Northpark Avenue, Summerlea from1948 (and possibly before) to 1958 when she died aged 73. Husband had died pre.1948, perhaps during the war. She had one daughter Martha who died young (in childhood). She had a brother Alex - dont know 2nd name. She also had a sister who had a daughter Martha Graham who stayed at Jenny Lynn where Mrs Love actually died. (Mrs Graham was a Green Lady - she had children Alex & Martha). There was also a Mr Love who was a Mason in the Pollokshaws Royal Arch - cannot remember where he stayed. He was small, black hair - he might have been a plumber? Not much I'm afraid but suggest that a check of Scotland's people 1901 Census might help as Thornliebank wasn't that big prior to building of Woodfarm in the early 50s unless you include Caranwadric. Hello Jean, Sorry, a wee error on MILLAR - Mary's middle name had an "A" not an "E" , but her GM Mary, who she was named after, has had both an A & E used. Mary Millar Mills (b Paisley 1901) was a daur of my G-uncle James Mills & Agnes Scott (both b. Paisley 1873) Agnes was the daur of William Scott (b Ayr abt 1845) & Mary Millar/er (b Stonehouse, Lks. abt 1846) As Agnes isn't related to me - she had "married into" the Mills', i've done next to nothing on her parents, siblings etc. Her sis Mary though married James Mills' cousin - a Robert Hardcastle. If you see anything that looks familiar please get in touch. Hi Linda, in my book of Scottish names "Maime" was a pet name, or nickname for Mary. Kind Regards Jeanette

Hello Linda, This is a slightly different spelling though - My cousin Mary Miller Mills was always called Mamie - but i think this was just from the beginnings of her 1st two names. Mamie is often another name for Margaret. Jack ---------------------------------------------------- Looking for the birth of Maime Currie without any luck.
