Hi Ruth, You're not wrong when you say the Millers are difficult to trace. The Christian names you give all fit with the ones I have for the next generations. What years are you looking at? Mary's first born was in abt. 1851 and her son William was christened in Greenock. Thanks, Jean.
Hello Ruth, I asked Jack about his Miller/Millar, but no fit, perhaps she will fit your ancestor? Mary MILLER b.1829 Glasgow, Lanark. ?Greenock. d.1899 Eyemouth, Berwickshire. Parents possibly John Miller + Agnes McMillan. Regards, Jean.
Hello Andrew, It looks like we have a connection here. My great-grandfather was Robert Lochhead, christened in Kilbarchan in 1852, the son of Archibald Lochhead and Janet McDougall. Archibald's parents were Robert Lochhead and Mary Gilchrist, and Janet's parents were James McDougall and Jane/Jean Jamieson. Archibald and Janet had 10 children, all except Robert born in Abbey/Johnstone. One daughter, Mary (b. 1863) married John Lang (son of Archibald Lang and Janet Paterson) in 1885, and another daughter, Maggie (b. 1865) married Robert Barr (son of Matthew Barr and Isabella Cochrane) in 1892. The Lang family emigrated to Western Australia, Robert and his family came to Canada, several went to the United States, and the Barr family remained in Scotland. Please contact me offlist for more information. Mavis Gray Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada
Hi Andrew, I note your interest in LOCHHEAD and JAMI(E)SON in Johnstone, Abbey Paisley. Hi Elizabeth, I have just started on my PAUL family and don't know much. Here is what I do know: John Paul & Sarah Hamilton (probably married before 1827). Their daughter, Sarah Paul (born abt. 1827 in Greenock - died 21 March 1902 in Greenock) married Andrew Killin (born 1825 in Ireland). They had 4 daughters that I know of: Mary (married a McLarty); Margaret (married a Keane, on 7 October1880 they had Sarah Paul Keane); Elizabeth (1st married-Hansen, 2nd-Fergus), and Sarah (married Olson). I have not found all the daughter's children yet, but it wouldn't surprise me to find a few more "Paul" middle names among them. Anything sound familiar? Hi All, Does anyone know where there is a list of members of the Incorporation of Old Weavers in Paisley? I'm looking for my great-great-great-grandfather, Peter McNAUGHT, who was born about 1754 in Low Church, Paisley, and there is a strong possibility he was a weaver. Any information greatly appreciated. Lois McNaught Ontario, Canada
