    3. Broadcast times for the BBC-Radio Scotland series, "The Lowland Clearances", are: Sundays, 11:00 am UK time: --May 18, 2003 --May 25, 2003 --June 1, 2003 Each program will also be repeated on the following Saturday at 20:30 UK time: --May 24, 2003 --May 31, 2003 --June 7, 2003 A good portion of the series is based on the experiences of some Ayrshire Scots who went to Scarborough, Ontario. In January this year, BBC-Radio Scotland interviewed the McCowan family in Canada, tracing the family's movements from Cumnock, Ayrshire, to Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire in 1799 and, finally, to Scarborough, Canada in 1833. Many families migrated from rural Ayrshire to the new industrial towns in Renfrewshire -- this is their story too. 2. Julie, how is the 1851 census indexed - by name of entire family or just head of family? Also do you ( or anyone) know how the name of a woman who had been married twice woould be listed? For example would she be mrs Elizabeth Young(1sthusband)Campbell(2nd husband). or just Elizabeth Campbell? Also would the death certificate of this person use both names or perhaps even include her maiden name? Would appreciate ANY help from anyone. Many thanks! 3. Hi Juanita, The Death Certificates I have found for a married lady are something like this: "Elizabeth Cambell (widow of/wife of William Shaw Campbell, husband's occupation) ......Father: (father's name, occupation, if deceased).....Mother: (mothers married name & maiden name)" When a family member or someone is left to give the coroner the father/mother info, then the death registry does list/index her as both Elizabeth Campbell and also by her maiden name Elizabeth Carruth. Believe it or not, I actually tried a death lookup at Scotlands People on a grgrandmother with a very common name by her married name and then by her maiden name and found her under each name with the same GRO codes...that is how I narrowed down which one was her. In case you are interested, here is a a transcript of a death certificate from my notes for my GrAunt, who was married twice. This will let you see the typical info on a death certificate from Renfrew....also she is listed in the death index as both Elizabeth Killin and Elizabeth Fleming. GRO 564/01 0486 Death search on Elizabeth Fleming (Killin) 1941, Female, 82 yrs, Greenock East 1941-DEATH: Elizabeth Fleming, Widow of Fergus Fleming, a Tugboatman, 3 November 1941 at 8h.10m. PM, 10 MacDougall Street, Greenock, female, 82 yrs old. Father: Andrew Killin, a Shoemaker, (dec.). Mother: Sarah Killin m/s PAUL, (dec.). Elizabeth died of Intestinal Carcinoma. As Certified by W.A. Milne, M.B. Informant: Margaret Keane (signed), Niece, Present. Registered 5 November 1941 at Greenock by J.W. MacPhail, Registrar. Also the 1851 census index lists each household member and their age, but wouldn't give a married lady's maiden name. Hope this helps, Jackie Scottsdale, Arizona USA ----- Original Message ----- From: <JuanitaPatterson@cs.com> To: <SCT-RENFREW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 11, 2003 2:56 PM Subject: Re: [Renfrew] 1841 and 1851 Census > Julie, how is the 1851 census indexed - by name of entire family or just head > of family? Also do you ( or anyone) know how the name of a woman who had been > married twice woould be listed? 2. Stuart Adam
    3. Lois, In Paisley library, there is an index to the Paisley Incorporation of Weavers from around 1702 - 1940+. As best I understand, there are a number records kept, e.g. cash books, minutes, record of memberships, and assistance provided to families. Most of these records are on microfilm, but I was not able to arrange for an inter-library loan. From what I saw there are about two hundred pages of information on each of several films. I suggest you need to get someone local to go there and look the records up. Maybe someone else on the list has done this before and can comment on the quality of information? Regards, Stuart Adam Aberdeen, Scotland From: "Lois McNaught" <lois.mcnaught@cogeco.ca> Subject: [Renfrew] Old Weavers in Paisley Date: Sun, 4 May 2003 10:03:01 -0400 Hi All, Does anyone know where there is a list of members of the Incorporation of Old Weavers in Paisley? I'm looking for my great-great-great-grandfather, Peter McNAUGHT, who was born about 1754 in Low Church, Paisley, and there is a strong possibility he was a weaver. Any information greatly appreciated. Lois McNaught Ontario, Canada

    3. Hi Louise I don't think that I can really help you at this time, but I noticed that you do have the name Kerr in your research. My Kerr is my great-great-grandmother who I was always told was "Grace Kerr who was born about 1789 and married Charles Macdonald who was born about 1792.Their son was born about 1813/14. I think that it is them in the IGI's alright. With her christening date as 6 Dec 1789 at the Abbey,Paisley,Renfrew,Scotland, and his birth in Greenoch,Renfrew,Scotland on 17 Jun 1792.Their is a marriage listed for them at the Abbey on 11 Jul 1811,but she is listed as Grizal Keir both times. Also I have found a possible birth for their daughter were she is listed as Grace Carr ! I know your Janet Kier was christened about 10 years before my Grace or Grizal was born, but possibly they were cousins. The one I have was a daughter to Alexander Keir and Agnes Craig and I have only found a sister Helen listed as well as a son Alexander.I am still trying to figure if this is the right couple by doing research at the FHC at the LDS church. If by chance any of this sounds familiar at all please let me know.Thanks.
