I will have the film, Scotland Register Deaths for 1871 for Paisley, for next couple of weeks. If you know the parish and/or registration number I will endeavour to find it. Regards, Linda
Hello, I have a bit of Haddow (from Lanarkshire) mixed with my family. A.... James Haddow and Agnes Brown (my GGGGG's) were the parents of Cicilia Haddow who married Alexander Prentice. Cicilia and Alexander (my GGGG's) had a Son named John Prentice who married a Janet Allan (my GGG's). John and Janet had a daughter Cecelia who was my GG Grandmother. Cecelia Prentice came to the States with her husband Archibald McCallum (and three children) in 1858. This is about the extent of my information. I may have a tidbit more but not much. Would you have any information to help me further back in the Haddow (Haddock) line? The 1881 UK Census from the LDS is worth the price. You cannot access the Scottish side of it on line. The Pedigree Resource Files are also a worthwhile purchase. They are updated family trees provided by fellow genealogists. Whilst all, or most, of this is online the CDs can be very helpful when you are not online and you have a little spare time to look at them. Besides which they are very cheap compared to some that are available from other sources and scarce on detail. If you can afford them, buy them. Regards David B. Lyle

Could SKS with access to any Greenock monument inscriptions transcripts please check for George DAVIDSON? He probably died sometime after 1810 & before 1841. Thanks, Pete Davidson from Suffolk, England
Can anyone help me with a tidbit of info I have on my gg grandfather's family. William and ElizabethWALKER left Greenock in early 1900s after a" fire in a mill turned their dreams to dust". Don't know what kind of mill. They left for South Africa and eventually homesteaded in Alberta, Canada circa. 1907. Williams father was Alexander WALKER who married Mary NICHOLSON and who died in Greenock in 1856. Thanks for any info. Would it be possible to ask if Baird or Hagan family deaths are recorded in the MI for Greenock They were masons possible both families from Antrim in Ireland? Also looking for Scott's. They were Bakers and Confectioners in Greenock. I am also researching Haddow,s and Hendersons also from Greenock. Seems to be lots of family from this area. Anyone else researching any of these names? Penny
"I broke my wrist and couldn't easily type in 'caps' for a while" What, no "Caps Lock" key on your keyboard then Jane? <grin> Brian
Hello Listers, There's a tendency on this List to type in lower case even for surnames. SURNAMES in upper case are much easier to read, and less likely to be deleted, unread. Sorry to gripe. I broke my wrist and couldn't easily type in 'caps' for a while, so maybe there's a genuine reason? Anyone with THOMSON, BRYSON or GLOVER ancestors from Paisley? If so I'd love to hear from you. Best Wishes, Jane in Midlothian, Scotland http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=kosmoid
On behalf of other Australians of Scottish descent I would like to apologise for the terrible email sent to this list. I am as proud of my independent minded Scottish ancestors as anyone, but I also believe that other Scots had just as fine an influence on other countries they emigrated to as they did in Australia. As for the religious hatred expressed, I guess I just have to behave as a rather well know man in the past did and forgive others as I am forgiven. I also think that this should stop, and we should get on with researching our family trees, which is the purpose of this list. Edith
Well said Jane I am sitting here feeling slightly embarressed for living down here in the Southern hemisphere :o) We all have the same goal- no matter where we are in the world- to find out stories and links to our ancestors- religion is very much part of that story especially as the Presbyterian Church sponsored many of Glasgow's poor to New Zealand in the 1840's. Please lets not fight and enjoy sharing our knowledge with each other.
