Aw, c'mon David, pull yer head in a bit, mate! I agree with your stand on unsnipped messages, but I think your method of delivery is O.T.T. (over the top) We've all been guilty at some stage, but to attack someone for a signature line that isn't his is a bit feral, don't you think? If you read the message, it's signed Mark but the signature line belongs to John M Sutherland-Fisher. Certainly it sounds a bit pompous in the context of a Genie List, but Mark was probably using someone else's business PC. So what about a little give and take, eh? Well Mark, I hate myself when I resort to this but I believe congratulations are in order for you. Your three line message in SCT-RENFREW-D Digest V03 #164 would have taken two A4 pages to print out if I had been silly enough to do so. The first page gave me the impression of how good and clever you were with all the positions that you had, or had held, the second page an unedited message from someone else. For such an "educated " person did no one teach you the ethics of editing to save wasted paper and stop wasting space and people's time downloading repeatedly unnecessary stuff. Spare a thought for those who have slow modems and are on pay as you go connection. If you have something to say be precise and cut out all the bull at the bottom. If you have something to offer, offer it. There is nothing worse than someone waving their greatness up my nose. I would hate to see what I got from you if you had done some research for me and I had to pay for it, especially if this is an example. Should those details have not applied to you I apologise. Hi Sharon If you have any time to spare before having to hand this book back to the library :-) could you have a look to see if there is any mention of a Margaret THOM, chr. 11 Nov 1839 in Greenock, parents William THOM and Mary SINCLAIR. Her father, William THOM, died in Greenock in 1845, and I assume is buried in Greenock cemetery. I have been unable to find any information about Margaret THOM after her birth, so currently assume that she died in childhood. If she did, again I would assume she would be buried in Greenock. Her mother re-married, to Robert Leslie SMITH in Dunoon (my g-g-grandfather), and moved there with the other two daughters of her first marriage, who subsequently both married in Dunoon, but of Margaret, her first child, no trace beyond the record of her christening. Keeping my fingers crossed that you might find something. Many thanks, Donna PS. If you don't have time, no problem. I know I'm late with this request, and others faster off the mark are further up the queue than me! :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon Exham" <sharon_exham@hotmail.com> To: <SCT-RENFREW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 15, 2003 6:43 PM Subject: [Renfrew] Re: SCT-RENFREW-D Digest V03 #158 > Have (from Society Library) Renfrewshire MIs pre-1855. Yes David, it was in Eastwood Parish - 562 (457) En Dist. 7. Jack - Paisley =========================== First, can someone tell me whether this was in Eastwood Parish? Or was the White Cart Water the county boundary to Lanarkshire and Govan parish at this point. An 1868 gazetteer says the White Cart River goes through the parish of Eastwood, but there seems to be a boundary on the old OS map. Second, can someone tell me the reference for the 1851 census enumeration book for this area? Or even better, also tell me whether William CAMPBELL and wife Mirren (or Marion) were living at Coustonholm. It is described by the descendants in New Zealand as being a farm with an apple orchard, which looks possible from the old OS map. regards, David Hawgood London, England.
