    3. Hi Juanita Here are a few addresses that should be of use to you: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk Official site for the General Register Office of Scotland. This is where you can search the indexes of births, marriages and deaths, and download scanned images of specific pages from the various registers. £6 buys you 30 credits and 48 hours of search time. Viewing one page of search results costs 1 credit, and viewing 1 scanned page costs 5 credits. Credits are carried forward for future sessions if you don't use them all up in the 48 hours allowed. The Scots Origins site is still around (http://www.scotsorigins.com) but no longer hosts the official GROS indexes, which are now available via the Scotlands People website listed above. Scots Origins continues to offer some other (paid) services, and also offers free access to their own search indexes of the International Genealogical Index. Quite useful, as they offer some different searches to those available on the Family Search website (see below). http://www.scottishdocuments.com This is where you can search for old Scottish wills and testaments. If you find one you want, you can purchase and download a scanned copy of the pages recording the document in the relevant Books of Session. Cost per document (regardless of number of pages) = £5. http://www.familysearch.org The genealogy website of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You can search the LDS indexes to the International Genealogical Index here for free. HTH! 3. Hello Carol I am still trying to find the siblings of my RICHARD HENDRY/HENRY. I listed both spellings as I have HENRY on his marriage certificate and the first 3 children's baptism records, then it changes to HENDRY and remains so even on his death certificate. My mother was born a HENDRY. I do know from the 1871 Greenock census that Richard was born in Armagh, Ireland. His mother was MARTHA (nee Wylie) and his father was NATHANIEL. Martha died in 1871 in Greenock, but Nathaniel was deceased prior to 1861. Richard married Isabella Knight Scrymgeour in West Parish, Greenock 1861. Their children were Janet Hamilton (died aged 3 in Greenock); Martha Wylie; Jessie; Richard; Margaret Smith Kerr; James Scrimger; William; Charles Davidson; Isabella and Jean. I list their names as I know naming patterns were sometimes used. They emigrated to Newfoundland between 1871/1874. If the Nathaniel Hendry that Mike Dowding just found for me on the 1851 census is the correct one, his birth date would be about 1787 so it's possible that he and your Margaret Henry could be related, but it would seem strange for Richard to be born in Armagh if, in fact, his father was from Paisley. Did people move back and forth from Ireland to Scotland in those days? I have Margaret as the daughter of Robert Henry and Mary Esden (not confirmed). I am searching for siblings of Margaret. Does any of this connect with any of your research? 3. Hi Mike Thanks for finding these for me. Yes, many sons, but I sure like to think they are mine. My Richard was born in 1838, so he could very well be the Nathaniel and just didn't use this name. He named two of his sons, Charles and William. His mother was Martha. 1. Re: [Renfrew] Census 1851 for Brown
    2. Mike Dowding
    3. Hi This one is very difficult - there are three pages of John Brown's and two of Janet Browns. I think that I have to discount the sisters, they would probably be married by then and no longer using Brown (at least on the census) The only John/Janet correlation is Janet Brown, 74, Neilston, 452, 9, 5, 13 John Brown, 42, Neilston, 452, 9, 5, 14 This assumes that Janet is listed as the Head of the household with John as Son. Unfortunately John's age does not match. He should be 35. If John had married and was now head of household, I would expect Janet to be listed after his wife and andy children. The John's that would qualify by close age would be John, 34, Paisley, 461, 8, 1, 18 John, 37, Paisley, 466, 6, 4, 4 John, 35, Paisley, 468S, 3, 15, 5 The only Janet's to be old enough to have a son of 35 are Janet, 66, Abbey, 471, 12, 20, 7 Janet, 62, Abbey, 469, 6, 11, 14 Janet, 88, Neilston, 451, 4, 32, 20 Janet, 87, Neilston, 452, 8, 44, 11 Janet, 75, Paisley, 467, 17, 10, 20 I have discounted one at Eastwood living with her husband Mike ------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT BACK AGAINST SPAM!
