    3. Pat, probably a co-incidence, but I have a Peter Aitken who married a Mary Jane McKay, 1853, Glasgow, unfortunately I don't know Mary Jane's parents, she died 1876? 3. Hi Irene, Thank you very much for looking. I appreciate your help. Thank you Pat -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, 4 June 2006 10:20 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Renfrew] AITKEN There is no online index but MIs for Renfrewshire have been published by the Scottish Genealogy Society. The entries are indexed by surnames only and I can see no stone with both Aitken and McKay on it in a Greenock cemetery. However SGS transcriptions concentrate on stones with pre-1855 inscriptions so one with only an 1865 death may not be included. Not every burial included a permanent monument. Irene

    2. There's no Shier in the index of Greenock MIs............ but as I said it concentrates on pre-1855 stones. Lots of Shaw and Shearer stones. Shier is not a name I've come across before. I think the Renfrewshire FHS has a Greenock burials CD in the pipeline. Irene

    3. Hello all, Is there an index for cemeteries in Greenock, Renfrew. My GG Grandmother died on the 19th Feb 1865 - registered in District West, Burgh of Greenock, her name was Ann AITKEN nee McKAY. I would love to find her exact burial details and find out if there is a headstone. It was shortly after her death that her husband and youngest two children left to emigrate to Australia where most of the rest of the family was. Thank you Pat

    3. Hello: Thank you for the response. I have already checked out all the "John Husband"s on the IGI, and unfortunately, none of them are my John. The David Husband, born 1833, is the youngest son of my John. His oldest son, Alexander, is my 3xgrandfather. I have also read many of the parish records for Johnstone and Neilston, Renfrew but cannot find any mention of John or his wife, Ann Robertson. I'll just have to keep looking. Cheers, Bobbie

    3. Stephen, I wandered over to Scot's People and cannot find John Aiton being born in Houston or Renfrew, but I did find one John Aiton born in Scotland in 1859. Btw...Scot's People show four born between 1855-1865. However, when I checked for Aiton and McNair marriage, I cannot find one listed at Scot's People between 1855-1930 or their old Parish records (pre 1855). You might want sped a few coin and get the birth records and determine which is your kin. Cheers!!!
