    3. Hi Jim I for one have been helped by those volunteers and their dedicated transcription works. I have been lucky that Renfrew was transcribed for the 1841 census and I duly found some of the people I had been looking for. 3. Hello all, I was reading several messages re: what is or is not available on the FreeCen site. Here is a link which will allow you to view the status of the various Scotland counties. http://www.freewebs.com/mmjeffery/index.htm Dunbarton was mentioned in some posts - if you click on the above link, and then click on Dunbarton, you will see the status. If you take a moment to read the page on the above link and any of the county links, you will see volunteers are needed. If you have an interest in the census for a particular area, and someone is needed to volunteer...perhaps you would consider helping out. I'm sure the county coordinators would be more than happy to get someone with some free time. After all, what you transcribe may not only help you, but will help countless others in the future. As previously mentioned, numerous volunteers all over the world are working on this project for the benefit of all. Instead of complaining about things not being done fast enough, perhaps pitching in to become part of the solution will be more productive. Enough said...hope I did not offend anyone...certainly not my intention. Now...I better get back to transcribing or my county coordinator will "fire" me. 1. Re: [SCT-RENFREW] New Passenger database from Ancestry.com-frtee fornow.
    2. Hello Mary, Sorry for the delay, to a question....Which you may have figured out already. Go to Ancestry.com, Ancestry.co.uk will do also. If you are registered log in. If not, go for the this database which is free until the end of November at no charge. If you don't open and get the large announcement of the new Immigration database, go to Home and you will find it there. When you find it, you will be asked for such things as name, approximate age, year of arrival, dates of arrival and departure, etc. I was interested in what might have happened to my grandmother's youngest brother. I knew he was born in 1888, in Paisley, Scotland, and was married in Toronto in 1921 to Elisabeth Smith. He seemed to disappear after that. So I thought I'd try immigration records, While there are many George Moir's I skipped over the ports of New York, etc., because I knew he would be coming from Canada. I found him in the Detroit crossing. Now I was lucky, because it noted his country of origin as Paisley Scotland. (though Paisley was misspelled.) The small "manifest" gave a great deal of information, e.g., he was traveling on his own, going to see a brother in law, his street address in Toronto, which was the family home, etc. All U.S. federal Census records were open and free, so I checked there, but failed to find him, so he either returned to Canada or Scotland. I don't believe they are available free now. However, they are available free at any LDS Family history center. If anything isn't too clear or I can be of additional help, please do not hesitate to respond. All the best. Don Wilson formerly Oakville, Ontario

    3. Hi Don, I wonder if you could explain to us, in a bit more detail, what you searched on ancestry.com, to find your great uncle's entry into the US? I have a great uncle too, who supposedly immigrated first to Canada from Liverpool, England abt. 1907), then ended up in Wyoming, US (abt. 1912) Thank you! 1. [SCT-RENFREW] New Passenger database from Ancestry.com-frtee for now.
    2. If you are enrolled on Ancestry.co.uk you likely received an E-mail notice of the new U.S. passenger list database on Ancestry giving more than 100 million names of persons arriving at U.S. ports from 1820 to 1960. Many from Scotland sometimes giving county and or city or origin. It’s presently free with Ancestry.co.uk membership. In addition, I have found U.S. federal census records available, even though I do not have membership for these records. If you are not an Ancestry.com member, a free trial is offered. Newspaper reports say it will be free until the end of November. After that it looks like it is $155.00 US a year or 29.95 a month. I found a great uncle’s move from Canada, to the U.S. via Detroit, in 1924, that gave his age, wife’s name, country of birth, street address in Toronto, plus other details. All records are obviously not as complete. Newspaper reports with interesting details can be found at: http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/199648/     (Provo Herald) http://www.deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,650205526,00.html       (Salt Lake Deseret Morning News) Good Hunting, Don Wilson Spanish Fork, Utah
