Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZeC.2ACE/93.239.1 Message Board Post: Somewhere I believe I have the genealogy of the Henry Ballantyne family of Walkerburn. We were there in gala to do research and went up to the mill in W. to a sale. Here we found a museum of Ballantyne photos, memorabilia etc. of the old mill history. In the gala library I believe I copied or p/copied the lineage of this Ballantyne line. Could not connect to my husband's line, though his grandfather was b. Galashiels--John Ballantyne who m. Janet Matilda Turnbull, dau. of Thomas Turnbull. [Not to be confused with the earliler John B. and Janet Turnbull of the 1700's]. John, Janet and children emigrated from SCT to Galt, Ont. in 1867 where John was Supt. of a woolen mill. Family came to US from Ont. Will correspond with anyone who believe they connect with this line.

    3. Hi Col, Small world. I just moved from Helensvale on the Gold Coast to Launceston about 11 weeks ago. I was a member of the local genealogical club so we may have even crossed paths. I have come across your Elizabeth & John Paterson - but I am yet to be able to link them in. She is likely to to be a cousin to my lot. If I am correct Your lot ties into the Steel family? It is possible there may also be a link with you on this branch as Steel is a middle name of a branch of my Peebles area families and I often find that their middle names such as Easton, Stenhouse, Thomson, Sibbald have all turn out to be surnames further back. I'll keep your email and if I can link in later I'll be in contact. Surnames: Hood/Plant/Rutherford/Stainsby Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZeC.2ACE/92.1 Message Board Post: I am constantly amazed at my luck in finding connections on the internet! I have been researching my great-grandmother's history and started with basically nothing... just she and my great-grandfather's names and that they may have been around the Palmerston Ont area. She had a brother named John Hood Plant (her name was Christina Plant). The long and the short of it is that her mother was Janet (or Jennett) Hood, daughter of James and Isabella (Rutherford) Hood. One family tree I found did not list a Gideon, but I suspected a connection to a Gideon from a couple of things: 1) in 1870's Ontario, Perth Co., there was a B Plant and a G Hood that had land right next to each other just outside Palmerston and 2) both appear in the census for that same time period (Gideon Hood and Benjamin Plant). There is a great writeup on the Hood family of Wellington Co. (same family) from the 1906 Wellington Co. Atlas. I traced the possible offspring to narrow my search down to Janet and Benj! amin. Anyways, have a photo of "Uncle Gideon Hood" with my great-grandmother taken in San Bernardino about 1887/88 (my g-grandparents were married there in 1889). Then tonight I found a listing in the California death index for James Gideon Hood, b. 1870 in Canada, d. in LA. Figured this must be some relation so am following up and came across your message. Would love to find out what you know of the family.
