    2. Barbara Thanks for your response. I may get back to you on your offer. Right now we are trying to figure out why the 8th Earl of Traquair opted to terminate the title by devising Traquair house and possessions to his sister instead of to his offspring. My cousings ggrandfather, James Stuart, was contacted twice about assuming the title, but he was on in years and said he could not afford the expense and responsibilities of the position. Have a holy, blessed and Merry Christmas! dick barr Syracuse, NY

My Grandfather was a Factor of Traquair House, approx late 1800's to 1905. The then owner was Herbert Constable Maxwell Stuart. My Father was born there, and was (partially) named after the owner. my FAther's name was Herbert Stuart Harper. I have letters written to the owner from my Grandfather reporting on the affairs of managing Traquair. From Memory, I think the owner lived in Yorkshire. If you want a little more info, I have some 'bits and pieces' I could dig up. Not sure , but I think I have the address of the then owner. Don't know if this person is connected to your Stuarts, or that the name was assumed for ownership. Cheers!
