Hi. There is a small river called the Lyne Water that runs into the larger river Tweed (I think it runs into Tweed!) but I think you've got the wrong Lyne in Newcastle. Any more clues as to why it should be Peeblesshire? Evelyn

Hello I have been tracing a relative WILLIAM ALAN SNAITH who was a teacher and member of THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SCOTLAND. They have informedĀ me that he joined this institute in 1865 and give his place of abode at time of joining as NEWCASTLE-UNDER-LYNE. Can anyone tell where this village/place is/was? This the result of my research into pedigree of my wife's G.Gr.Parents. James Davidsons Nos. 1/4/8 are confirmed,as is Janet Nicol No.9. Also are Michael Davidson and his wife Anne Tait and her parents James Tait and Betty Brunton, also his Parents James no. 12 and Janet Brunton. The rest have come of the Net,and are unconfirmed. Did Ann Lamond come from Glenshea in the Highlands? James, a Son of James No.1 on arrival in N.Z. m. a Douglas Duncan [ who incidentally hated her names] who was the daughter of Peter Ayson and Douglas Lamond of Braemar. It would be interesting if those two ladies are connected. Can anyone expand the line of Anne Spiers, or in fact any of the Family lines. Does anyone know of a book which tells of lifein peebleshire in the mid 1800s I can supply details of the descendants of James after he arrived in Dunedin N.Z. in 1875. Hope someone can help me with this. Cheers All and thank you . Ray King

The family has a habit of naming the eldest son by alternating the names Robert and John. My father is Robert, my grandfather is John, and my great grandfather was another Robert. I'm curious to see how far this has extended back, as it looks to be ending with my generation, who are all female!

I believe they were the bakers for the village. Our branch of the family moved to Glasgow and now mostly live in and around Oxford.
