Hi All Is there anyone who would like to help me discover the Parents of Margaret Weir died 17th October at Innerleithen in 1891, she was married to William Stewart and is Buried in Innerleithen. Knowing who her Parents are would unlock a whole new branch to my tree, I just can't wait the few months to get in the GRO. If anyone would like to do it online for me I would extremely grateful. TIA Derek Weir _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself with cool new emoticons http://www.msn.co.uk/specials/myemo
Hello everyone, I have a John ORR, father William, mother Jean (Jane), he was christened 29-3-1845, Traquar, Pebbles. The family arrived in Australia in 1852. William was a farmer in Ayrshire, with the Earl of Eglinton, and then went to Traquar sometime after 1843. I would like to find out more about Traquar, is it a village or estate, and could William have been working for the nobility? He was held in very high regard in Ayrshire. I would be delighted to hear anything about this area, links, records, ideas on what might have made him venture to Pebbles. The family were in Monmouthshire in 1851, prior to departure to Australia. Many thanks and ,-._|\ best wishes, / Oz \ jill , brisbane. \_,--.x/ jmglover@tpg.com.au

Hello! My Father was born at Traquair, and lived in Innerleithen and Peebles. His Father was the Factor of Traquair from about 1890 to 1910. I have a small hard cover book, called Poems of the Borderland by George Hope Tait, who may have been related to the then owner of Traquair named Herbert Constable Maxwell Stuart. A researcher a few years back looked in the library I believe, and found much written about this well-known Poet. I don't know if I still have the record of it., amongst my myriad letters. There is an archivist at Traquair who also does Genealogy, named Margaret Fox that could help you. Hope this gives you some leads, Barbara (Harper) Logan in BC Canada _________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: "raymond" <raymond.k@xtra.co.nz> To: <SCT-PEEBLES-SHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 04, 2004 6:18 PM Subject: [Peebles] New Zealander Search for Ancestors > Hi, Peebleshire, We will be visiting you in November, specially to visit our ancestors. I'll try this again- came back yesterday. I want to ask the listers for some more advice. I'm already to go on my trip- everything booked OK I do want to be as organized as I am able before I get there. I need to know what types of records I will be able to research and where to go for each. My ancestors came from Peebles, Selkirk, Innerleithen, Maxton, Langholm etc. I will be staying in Peebles as my base of operations. Thanks again to all who sent web sites so I could book my B&B's, car rental, trains etc. TIA Marlene Jackson Ontario, Canada

Fellow genealogists, Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you. I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used for genealogy education. This includes online courses (free or fee), how-to's, articles/columns, newsgroups, BBS, chat, mailing lists, forums, or even personal web pages that publish learning material - anything online that helps you in learning the craft of genealogy. Your comments on the following is of utmost interest: What are your favourite learning outlets on the Internet? How often do you use them? Can or did you find what you needed online? What are your learning successes? What could be better? What do you look for in genealogical learning on the Internet? If you would like to participate, your comments are extremely welcome. Please send your comments to me directly at research@veale.com.au before Saturday 1st May 2004. I thank you in advance for your participation in this academic research. Kylie Veale P.S. Names and email addresses will be protected and are therefore not included in the publication. Copies of the paper will be made available to interested participants on request, after the book has been published. ----------------------------------------------- Kylie J.
