Hi all I am new to this list and have not been researching in this part of the country before. I am looking for information on my Crockett family. My 2nd great grandfather was Alexander Crockett born 8 July 1827 (taken from a family bible) he was born in Peebles, Scot according to his second wedding certificate. On this certificate he named his parents as James Crockett, a Nailer by trade and his mother Christina Telford. Alexander first married Annie Robb 9 July 1847 in Carstairs, Lanark, Scotland. Three daughters were born in Carstairs before the family immigrated to Australia aboard the Constance in 1851. A further 4 children were born in Australia. I would like to trace this line back further and wondering if anyone has access to the parish records. On the back of an old photography of Alexander, his son has written that Alexander also had a brother named John. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is there anyone on the list researching this family? Cheryl

I do have a David, Samuel and John in my tree. My line comes from an older brother Thomas who came out to Australia I'm not sure quite when but died in 1892 in Guildford, Victoria, Australia. I am hoping that those you have mentioned are a part of that family. Thanks again Deb

Bob, If you are working from less than legible handwriting, you might consider Orchard Mains, near Kirkhouse, just south and west of Traquair. If you go to streetmap.co.uk and enter Orchard Mains as a place name, it will come up.
