I am ready to create the group at groups.io and wonder about the best name. Aberdeen&NEScotland or something similar has been suggested. What do you think? We can keep SCT-NECoast since everyone is familiar with that or we can get cerative. I hope to hear from a bunch of you for ideas. Jim
Jim, I was up in Buckie Fisherman Heritage Museum and, with a cup of tea in hand, I learnt a lot but also able to help them with some of my salmon fishers on the River Spey. They were telling be about the salmon bothies for those that fished off the beaches along that coast. I also got some copies of photos for the gangs fishing the river from their collection. Well worth a visit. I don't have time above my present commitments to take on the list solo but happy to help in a smaller way if it would help you. Let me know. Hi Gillian, I tried to get the Aberdeen list to expand their region to cover all of N E Scotland. I suggested Aberdeen & N E Scotland list but they seemed to ignore me. The Moray list has 2 active members and Banff seems to have died a death. I do not know about Inverness, Nairn or Kincardine. This NECoast would seem an obvious candidate to include. Hi, I would be interested in the group continuing but only if the effort involved is merited by user numbers. I appreciate your hard work and am so sorry that this change is bringing more of it. Sadly I am currently full-time caring for an ageing parent or I might have been able to volunteer some help, but it just isn't the right time for me at the moment. Whether or not the e-mail group continues, thank you so much for all you have done thus far! Hello list! Still searching my relatives in the area of Tain, specifically Nigg. James FRASER was a wheelwright (?) at Pitcalnie and his wife was Katherine Munro from Rosskeen. I am told that their gravestone is in the cemetery at Nigg Old Church, likely just their initials JF and KM. Any feedback most welcome! I have the census data already.
my greatgrandfather from Aberdeenshire: John Bartlett 1845, married Jane Jeffrey in Burghead; died at sea off Burghead, Morayshire approx. 1894; my Laing ancestors from Burghead and area, Morayshire: John Laing 1740s married Margt Junkin; his son John Laing b 1796 of Sandymoss married Elspet Cobban.
Names are FARQUHARSON, GORDON, GRANT all around Gartly, Huntly, Aberdeenshire and Mortlach and Glenburnie Banffshire. Mainly looking for James Farquharson born about 1840-42 to Jane Grant and James Farquharson in Mortlach according to death certificate in New Zealand. Married in 1882 in NZ but his earlier life and birth date are a mystery. He left Scotland to go to NZ but came back again, then left again to NZ by 1882. Also children of John Gordon and Jane Green, married 1841, had 9 children, James married Isabella (born 1858 Glenburnie) in NZ. But where are the other children? Its hard to track them, theres so many Williams, Helen etc. I have their births but after that nothing. Thanks Barb Farquharson ------------------------- Email sent using Optus Webmail
