HELP!!! Does anyone have access to the 1851or 1861 census returns for Kirkmabreck? We have found our family in the 1841 census at Creetown 7,2 Old Street 25 VERNON, Samuel, 30, sawyer VERNON, Jane, 25, Scotland VERNON, John, 14 VERNON, Samuel, 12 VERNON, Stewart, 10 VERNON, Marion, 2 There is also a James (our direct ancestor) who must have been away at sea on census night. He would have been 18. We are now trying to connect an Alexander Vernon who would have been born circa 1848. We found him with our James, on a Vessel "Oak" at Census Place: Bootle Cum Linacre, Lancashire, England in 1881. Suspect that this Alexander Vernon married Hannah McLachlan 21 Oct 1867 Kirmabreck and that he might be a brother to our James.
