While doing research at the Dumfries & Galloway Family History Center in Dumfries last year, I came across some very useful compilations of baptisms, marriages, and deaths from old parish records (1699-1854) and entries from the 1841 and 1851 censuses (censi?) compiled by Howard Sproat. The particular compilations I looked at were for the Parish of Girthon, but my recollection is that Mr. Sproat had done similar work in other parishes as well. I don't know whether anyone is carrying on his work, but it was/is good work. Cheers.
