Hello, I am working on the Sproat family line and am missing the 'middle', so to speak. I have the line back to my great-great-grandfather Orange Reilly Sproat and his wife Mary Elizabeth Smith. I know the line originates from Kirkcudbrightshire and may be linked to the castle and cemetery there. This much was confirmed by my great-grandfather's own research which has 'wandered' to regions unknown since his death. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Happy impending Holidays, Tina Sproat [email protected]
Dear Tina, You'll find that SPROATs are thick on the ground in Kirkcudbrightshire, but Orange Reilly doesn't sound exactly Scottish! Can you give some dates, places or other clues? My GORDONs were forever marrying SPROATs, and there are heaps of them recorded in the monumental inscriptions in the graveyards in the Stewartry, but you'll need to help us a little more with what you have unearthed. Dear List Just curious as to whether anyone on the list has chosen to carry on the work on the Sproats started by Howard Sproat? Regards Peter - (Howard believed me to be a descendant of Thomas Sproat of Auchahay Borgue, 1665 - 1722 :-) Jill Dakin wrote: > Dear Tina, > You'll find that SPROATs are thick on the ground in Kirkcudbrightshire, but > Orange Reilly doesn't sound exactly Scottish!
