Dear listers A question to which I am sure one of you has the answer. What is on a parish record fiche. Sounds a silly question I know but today I attacked the Balmaghie fiche. Lots of it was extremely difficult to read (expected) but not assisted by: A. The fiche reader being sited 18 inches too high for the chair B. The rapidly changing focus of my eyesight which means I don't wear glasses to read, do for distance and take them on and off for the PC (Off at the moment but..) C. The 2 grandchildren of the LDS site supervisor this morning who were lovely children but didnt seem to understand (and no-one told them) that they werent in the nursery. I had extreme difficulty concentrating on what my eyes were seeing because my ears were hearing too much too loudly! (Who revoked the rule that said children should be seen and not heard ....) D. The apparent random order of the fiche. I went through a series of birth records then it changed to another series 50 years earlier, followed by some marriages, then some deaths and then reverted to births covering the same period as the first set. This was about 1/4 way through the fiche. If I had had the time (had sneaked an hour off work) and the concentration I might have managed to work something out but gave up in total frustration and booked another session (attempting to avoid a session likely to coincide with the children). Is the fiche perhaps organised into separate churches or is it really just the random collection that it appeared ? Regards Joy
