Dear Listers I have now received the Scos Origin copies of the birth registrations of my GG Grandad George and his 4 siblings. As each is included on a page with several others I thought I should test my eye sight and attempt to transcribe them for the list - in case I have in my possession a record on someones long lost ancestor. I apologise for any confusion caused by my inability to read these documents with 100% accuracy ! Here goes : Parish of Balmaghie County of Kirkcudbright 1821 (Love this one) : Elizabeth Barbour, natural daughter of William Barbour & Jean Pollock was born the 24th April 1820 & baptised 22nd of May 1821 Margaret ferguson being sponsor. This child upon being born was exposed by the mother at Bridge of Dee. The birth place is a ?? of CrossMichael. David Cowan son of John Cowan, worker at 'Fininefs ?' & Margaaret Carson was born the 23rd September baptised 27th May 1821. Janet Douglas daughter of James Douglas, worker at Threave Mains & Dorothea Canimin was born the 1st & baptised 28h July 1821 James Ireland son of James Ireland, wright at Laurieston & Mary Mc Lansburgh was born the 2nd & baptised 14th June 1821. (interesting to me this one as one of my entries is John Lansburgh Millar). Robert Mitchel son of Quintery Mitchel in Bellemach & Mary Bennet was born the 23rd May & baptised 20th June 1821. Mary Bennet standing sponsor. 1822-23 James Hunter son of James Hunter, blacksmith at Laurieston & Margaret Thomson was born 13th dec 1822 & baptised 7th Jan 1823. Samuel Irvine son of Joseph Irvine, worker at Laurieston & Mary Brown was born 30th Oct 1822 & baptised 20th Jan 1823. Jane Lewes daughter of Robert Lewers, Shoemaker, and Jean Lewers born 28th Jan & aptised 28th Feb 1823. Barbara Mc Gicoch daughter of John Mc Gicoch, carpenter at Douchnaro (?) & Sarah graham born 20th & baptised 31st March 1823 David Kerr sonof PeterKerr, tenant in Barend & Grace Bennet was born 21st March & baptised 11th April 1823. Agnes mc Queen daughter of william Mc Queen, worker at Nook, and Margaret Douglas was born 4th & baptised 8th March 1825. Sarah Milby, daughter of John Milby, worker at Bridgstone & Agnes Gurlet was born 30th Jan & baptised 11th March 1825. Elizabeth Lewes daughter of Robert Lewers, Shoemaker, and Jean Lewers born 5th & baptised 18th March 1825. Mary Lachleson, daughter of Janet Campbell and, according to her declaration of Robert Lackleson was born 24th sept 1824 & baptised 29th March 1825. Adam Coats, son of Gilbert Coats, worker at Blackbridge & Jean Cannon born 2nd & baptised 8th april 1825. 1827/28 Jane rutherford, daughter of John Rutherford, Land Steward to Captain Gordon of Balmaghie & Elizabeth Mather was born the 1st & baptised 26th dec 1827. Elizabeth Mc Gill Hunter duaghter of James Hunter, blacksmith & Margaret Thomson was born aat Laurieston 29th dec 1827 & baptised 24h Jan 1828. Thomas Irvine Mc Menzies son of William Mc Menzies, labourer at Bridge of Dee & Margaret Gunn was born 14th Jan & baptised 6th Feb 1827. David Clark younger of Hogary haad a natural son by Agnes Gordon. Named Robert born 10th ? 30th ? May & baptised 8th Nov 1829. Robert Trainer, sonof Jaames trainer, blacksmith at Bridge of dee & 'Etrin' Dalling was born 11th Nov & baptised 8th Dec 1829. James Mc Lachlan son of Hugh Mc Lachlan, tenant in Wogh & Elizabeth Mc Clellan was born 24th Nov (?) 1829 & baptised 12th Jan 1830. Hugh Mibray (?) son of Edward Mibray (?) , tailor at Laurieston & Mary Campbell born 4th Dec 1829 & baptised 5th Jan 1830. Hi Joy Thank you so much for transcribing the birth register! It includes my g-grandfather, Robert Clark. As he was a natural son, it explains why I can't find any records of his parents' marriage, or any siblings. If the birth register identifies the father as "David Clark, younger of Hogary" can I assume his father's name was also David? If the child was named Robert, is it likely that the mother's father was called Robert? On Robert's marriage certificate, it gives his father's occupation as Spirit Dealer.
