    3. Hello Vivian > I'm researching my Wilson line in the Dumfriesshire and > Kirkcudbrightshire area ..... I did a check of the OPR indexes: > Hamellan Wilson b: ?? d: ?? (could be Hamilton) > John Wilson b. Ca 1787 Dumfrieshire d: 1885 Indiana Hamilton WILSON bap. 1789, Minnigaff, KKD son of William WILSON and Sarah CHALMERS. other children to these parents are: Jean WILSON bap. 15 Oct 1786, Minnigaff John WILSON bap. 15 Jan 1788, Minnigaff David WILSON bap. 2 Mar 1792, Minnigaff Sarah WILSON bap. 14 Mar 1794, Minnigaff There is no trace of a marriage for the parents Hamilton WILSON bap. 17 Jan 1793, Colvend, KKD, son of William WILSON and Mary McKEAN. no other children listed for these parents There are no other Hamilton WILSONs in KKD or DFS. The date for John is close to the one you listed, but wrong county. > Mary Wilson b: ?? d: ?? > Jane (Wilson) b. ?? d: ?? (she was married - living with her daughter Sally - married name ??) > David C. Wilson b. Cir 1814 Kirkcudbrightshire > d: 1896 Indiana > H.W. Wilson b. ?? d: ?? (he was in the US as this letter was written to his sister Mary while he was serving in the Civil War) > I have recently found a possibility that the parents of these > children was John & Catharine Wilson -- but that is currently > unconfirmed. I found it on the LDS site. Surely these aren't all the same family? The two dates you mention 1787 and 1814 are 27 years apart and for them to be siblings would be a very long period of seperation if they had one mother. I would suggest that David C. could be a son? > Also, there should be another sister but so far no name as Mary > references in one of her letters how fortunate it is that 4 sisters > live so close as to visit often. It may be Sarah as Mary also > references in a letter that she doesn't know if Sarah has told John > of a death. Well there is a Sarah in the baptisms above. It is possible not all the children's baptisms were recorded. With such a common surname I think the unusual christian name and few dtaes your search could have been frustrating but the unusual chirstian name Hamilton tends to make the family listed above more likely. The strange thing is that Hamilton WILSON (female!) married William JACKSON 12 Jun 1814 in Minnigaff, KKD. I hope this helps. Cheers!
