The Kirkcudbright Advertiser of 10 Feb. 1882 mentions 'Mr. Stewart's photographic saloon, Kirkcudbright'. In the 1881 Census, he is residing in Kirks Close, Kirkcudbright and occupation is listed as 'photographer'. I suggest you contact Peter at http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/index.htm.
