Dear Victoria, The line through the part of the death certificate where the mothers Maiden name should be, indicates that her name was unknown to whoever registered the death. The same could also be true if the line was where the fathers name should be. It is not uncommon, particular when the deceased died in old age, the informant may never have know the deceased's parents.
