Dear Listers: Seeking information on George McKie, who was born about 1830 in possibly Creetown, SCOT. He married Elizabeth UNK, born about 1830 in possibly Creetown, SCOT. William MCKAY Son M S W 10 MA Occ: At School Fa: SCOT. Mo: SCOT. I'm not sure what happened to these other children but I do know about James. James McKie was born November 19, 1855 in Creetown, SCOT, and died November 23, 1922 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. He married Adelaide Mitchell [date unknown as yet], daughter of Samuel Mitchell and Anna Robins [?]. She was born October 23, 1858 in Rockport, Essex Co., MA and died November 06, 1917 in Lanesville, MA. They had two children: Jennie B, b. 1880 in Gloucester and Samuel, b. 1882, Gloucester. I'm not sure if there are other children at this point. On James's naturalization papers, dated October 02, 1900, it gives the location in Scotland where he was born and his date of birth. His death certificate number #290, found in the Essex County archives, states that he had been living in the US for 53 years, which would have him here as early as 1869. His naturalization papers, however, state that he came here as a minor on April 18, 1872. James was a stone cutter by trade most of his natural born life and there were many quarries within one mile of his residence at the time of his death. Both he and his wife, Adelaide, are buried in Locust Grove Cemetery, Gloucester, MA. He was buried November 26, 1922 and she was buried November 09, 1917. Samuel McKie was born July 15, 1882 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA, and died August 16, 1957 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. He married Beluah C Marchant, daughter of Jeremiah Marchant and Mary Hilliard. She was born July 15, 1884 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA and died March 17, 1972 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. They had three children: Margaurite, b. May 11, 1907, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; d. Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; m. SOUZA; Ralph, Sr. and Elizabeth, b. June 29, 1921, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; d. March 18, 1998, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; m. Barney Guiseppe. Samuel was found in the Essex County VR Volume one, page 187, as being born on July 15, 1882 at 55 High Street to James McKie of Scotland and Addie Mitchell from Rockport. Beluah was found in the Essex County VR Volume two, page 12, as being born at 16 Rowe Street on July 15, 1884 to Jeremiah Marchant of Gloucester and Mary E. Hilliard of Rockport. Samuel death certificate is numbered #179 but Beluah information of death come from SSDI/family at present until they send me the death certificate. Samuel was buried on August 19, 1957, Locust Grove Cem., Gloucester and Beluah was buried in 1972, Locust Grove Cem., Gloucester. For most of his life, Samuel was a labourer for the fish industry; Beluah was a housewife. Ralph Orlando McKie, Sr was born February 02, 1908 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA, and died January 29, 2000 in Millersville, Anne Arundel Co., MD. He married Frances Emily Abrahamsen March 27, 1937 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA, daughter of Abraham Antonisen-Abrahamsen and Amalia Rassmusdatter-Abrahamsen. She was born December 25, 1908 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA and died September 14, 1993 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. They had two children: Cynthia Remouf, b. June 11, 1940, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; d. June 12, 1940, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA and Ralph Orlando McKie, Jr., b. 1942. I have not looked up Ralph in any census records as yet but Frances can be found in the 1920 census, dated January 06, 1920, for Gloucester City, Essex Co., MA; ED #34; Sheet 6A. Her birth certificate is filed under "No Name Abrahamson", filed on January 5, 1908, but this is even wrong. "Son" is Swedish; "Sen" is Norwegian--which was what the Abrahamsens were. ["sen" means "son of; "datter" means "daughter"] Ralph, Jr. is still alive but Cynthia wasn't so lucky. The death/birth certificate number 114, lists that she died of Intercranial Hemmorhage. If you listened to what Ms. Frances told you, it was a broken neck. Doctor broke it in delivery and it does say on the DC that death was caused by labor. Parents lived on 3 Green Street, Gloucester at the time of birth/death of Cynthia and were also listed parents as single at the time of Cynthia's birth/death but they were married. Place of burial was Locust Grove in Gloucester. Funeral home was W.S. Pike in Gloucester, Mass. Ralph lives in Maryland. I am the mother of his only grandchild--a son. Can anyone connect? Sincerely, Tina McKie-Simons Buckhannon, WV USA _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
