    1. Watt Line
    2. Norma Chapin
    3. I am researching The Andrew Watt line. I know that he died in Kircudbright, Scotland in about 1849. He was married to a Hannah McKean who died the same year he did. He had a grandson named Wiliam Watt that was living with them during the 1841 census. William's mother was Martha Watt his father's last name was Dalrymple. Later in life he went by this name even though his mother and mother were not married. He was boarding with Sarah Dunbar in the 1881 census and was listed a a pauper fromerly a labourer he died of generic debility and old age. Also another granddaughter of Andrew's lived in Manchester or Preston, Lancshire, England and was born in about 1816 or there abouts. She married a John Moss Brandreth. One of their sons John Moss Brandreth is said to have gone to Australia and there found his grandfather James Watt. We had been told that James died in New Orleans, Louisana, U. S. A. In 1999 a Janelle, who was living in Australia contacted me with some information on the Andrew Watt line. I was neglectful and didn't write her back. Her E-Mail address was: [email protected] when I tried to write to her the other day the E-Mail came back. Does anyone know anything about her. I would like to contact her again. Thanks, Norma Chapin [email protected]

    1. William DOUGLAS, b. 1610
    2. Edward F. Douglass
    3. Hello fellow listers, I would like to be in touch with anyone who knows anything about William DOUGLAS, b. 1610. He married Ann MATTLE and in 1640 emigrated with his wife and first two children to Gloucester, and then Boston, and then by 1659or 1660 settled in New London, CT. In a deposition to the governor of Boston, Ann MATTLE stated that she was from Ringstead, Northamptonshire, England. According to a Douglas researcher in England, it "appears" that William was born in Castle Douglas. My particular interest is in William and his ancestors. Can anyone give me help? Sources that I might use? I have all of William's descendents in the male line down to me, as well as the descendents of his siblings. I would be happy to share what I've got. Ed Douglass

    1. Information on William Corrie
    2. I have for some time been doing research on a William CORRIE who married Isabella MAIN, both of Borgue. They were married in 1849 and came to New York City in about 1853-5. I have traced their ancestry back to the early 1700's in Kirkcudbrightshire and down to the present in America. However, when the couple came to America, they brought with them an illegetimate son also named William Corrie. This William was born 12 December 1845, was raised in New York City by his father and stepmother, served in the U.S. Civil War, and died in 1915 in Illinois. He married Annie Matilda BLACK and they had 6 children. I am seeking information on the mother of William CORRIE and any information on the children of William and Annie CORRIE. Thanks for your interest. Kent Tool

    1. MacBURNIE - HENDERSON - HARRISON
    2. Alterisio, Karen
    3. Researching the above referenced surnames - specifically William and Robert MacBURNIE from Colvend, Kirkcudbright who sailed to Prince Edward Island (PEI) from Galloway on the "Lovely Nelly" in 1774. I have seen it noted that William MacBURNIE married Grizzel HARRISON [daughter of David and Jennet (HENDERSON) HARRISON - this family is recorded as being from 'Haddon' (sic) and appears to have sailed on the same voyage to PEI as William and Robert MacBURNIE]; they spent only two years on PEI before moving to Halifax, Nova Scotia. They apparently had about 11 children (including David, William, Mary, James, Henry and Hugh). I have information regarding more recent generations of MacBURNIE's/McBURNIE's in the New Brunswick/Maine area, but have yet to make a distinct connection back to one of these gentlemen - but I suspect that the line I am researching goes back to William. Thank you, Karen Alterisio

    2. Roy Nicholson
    3. A friend of mine here in Australia that does not have Internet access has asked me to help him trace his antecedents. The family he is interested in is that of Ann Lewis born 1819 - d 1898 in Tongland and Robert Rain (Stonemason) of Dalbeattie - born 1810 in Rerrick died 1876. He has some informaiton on the descendents but believes that one of the family lines went to Manchester and would be interested in any details to continue his quest. 1. PARISH HISTORICAL ACCOUNTS
    2. Bob
    3. Hi Listers, Sandy Pittendreigh recently recommended a site to me that I found to be very interesting and informative. The accounts give you a sense of what it was like back in that time in history. It has very detailed and authentic Primary Source material about any Scottish Parish. This new site reproduces pages from the Old and New Statistical Accounts of Scotland-- not a very inspiring title, but that's what they were called when first written way back in 1790s the again in the 18 30s. In case your not familiar with these books --they were mostly written by Parish Ministers, sometimes assisted by local school masters, to give a detailed account of all the Scottish Parishes. It is the new joint Universities site at: <http://edina.ac.uk/cgi/StatAcc/StatAcc.cgi > You will get information of all the Parishes that Sandy has covered in his "D&G Churches and Graveyards" at: <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~dfsgal/> Regards, Bob Bartleson San Jose, California

    3. Hi Steve; The !841 census of Castle Douglas (Kelton Parish) finds Michael O'Neil, age 9, living at 200 King Street. Parents appear to be Phillip, 35, "licensed hawker", Ireland and Nancy, 30, Ireland. Other Children: Agnes,3; Bernard,11; Mary,6; and Phillip, 10 mths. Intriguingly, there is also a Jean O'neil, age 14 mths, living at 145 King Street, where there is also an Elizabeth McLearry, age 4 and a Robert Lindsay, age 6 mths and perhaps others. Hope that helps. 3. Hi All I was happily tracing my wife's O'NEILLs in Barrow-in Furness then to my surprise they showed up in the 1881 census with a born Scotland tag. A quick search has traced the family to Kelton where her ancestor Michael O'NEILL was born in 1869. A trundle to Familysearch located a marriage of Michael O'NEILL snr to Mary WALLACE in 1855 in Kirkcudbright. There were 3 other children all born Kelton:- Margaret 1860/1 James 1863/4 William 1866/7 Mary had died before the move to England and there was an Ann O'NEILL step-mother as wife in 1881. If this rings any bells out there I would be grateful for any tips and hints. Many thanks in advance Steve Steve Ecclestone Norwich Norfolk

    1. Dickson Rogerson
    2. Tom Dickson
    3. Hi I was just on Scotts Origins and found the marriage of Elizabeth Dinwiddie Dickson to Douglas Rogerson (Rodgerson). He signed his father inlaws death registration Rogerson but the 1881 census has it Rodgerson. In the 1881 census they lived at a farm called Cargenbank, Lochruttan and had a daughter Maggie Janet Rodgerson. Elizabeth's father Andrew Dickson also lived at Cargenbank but as a seperate entry on the census. There was an Inn at Cargenbank. Andrews family have been at Cargenbank since before 1841. In 1893 they lived at Chapmanleys, Troqueer according to Andrews death registration. I also found the death registration for Elizabeth Dickson, ( MS Dinwiddie ) in 1875, and the death of Marion Kissock ( MS Swan hopefully) in 1858 Is any body else looking for Swan, Dinwiddie, Rogerson, Kissock or Dickson from Lockruttan.
