    3. Hi Joy If you have time, could you see if there is a David Clark, spirit dealer, either around Balmaghie or Dalry? (In the 1881 census his son Robert gave his place of birth as Dalry, Kirkcudbrightshire, so he must have spent some time there.) Also the grandfather David Clark of Slogarie, parish of Balmaghie - was he a farmer? 3. Hi Sheena, I really don't know yet. James 1798 and John 1802 were here in Canada by 1825 in Georgina Twp, YORK, ONT. I've not been able to find the family in Scotland yet. I was told that James and John were son's of Adam RAE and Janet but I'm wondering if Adam was a messed up spelling of William...Wllam? etc. Why I say this, I found the only RAE's in Middle Paisley both had sons James and John, slightly diff. years but close enough and were sons of William Rae and Janet Robertson. See, even same mothers name. So I'm in a dilemma. I've not seen the original transcript of the marriage of John or James where on one of them, it said father was Adam. Sorry I'm not much help. 3. Hello I have read the postings of Pigot's Directory 1825 with interest. I haven't heard of it before - I suppose it was some sort of commercial reference for the area. I don't know what occupations it included, but do you think it may have listed David CAMERON (possibly with his father) who is shown, in the 1841 Census, as a Nail manufacturer in Silver Street, Creetown? I'm also interested in any listing for Peter BROWN (married to Elizabeth Ramsey) who would have worked in the same district in 1825. Best wishes Sybil Cameron

    3. Hi Joy, Thanks a lot for these. The weird part is, I have RAE's by the name of John, his brother James, a few Williams, an Andrew son of John, etc. but can't tell if these are them yet. I'll keep them in my files. They apparently went to Canada in 1825 so its very possible the directory was done before they left. 3. Hi Joy While you've got your finger in the directory (!), please could I ask you to keep your eyes open for any Andersons. In particular, a Robert Anderson, who was a surgeon in Colvend between 1822 and 1862, but he came from Sanquhar. Many thanks. 1. Scots Origins and LDS/IGI
    2. Alistair Cameron
    3. James Potter Burnie wrote about Scottish Origins, that WONDERFUL! resource: and this was the start of his second para: > All that is on the LDS/IGI is on there, also every and each record from 1854 > is available there. Plus OPRs and census prior to 1854. Not quite true. The LDS/IGI and the Scots Origins service are BOTH essential to our craft and there's good stuff in each that you'll NOT find in the other. Even more complete than Scots Origins are the sources IN New Register House. You can search the records of quite young living persons. Cheers......... ALISTAIR (Alec) CAMERON

    1. Re: BALMAGHIE BIRTH REGISTER ENTRIES 1820 - 1830
    2. Sheena Jones
    3. Hi Joy Thank you so much for transcribing the birth register! It includes my g-grandfather, Robert Clark. As he was a natural son, it explains why I can't find any records of his parents' marriage, or any siblings. If the birth register identifies the father as "David Clark, younger of Hogary" can I assume his father's name was also David? If the child was named Robert, is it likely that the mother's father was called Robert? On Robert's marriage certificate, it gives his father's occupation as Spirit Dealer. Does anyone know what/where Hogary is? Thanks again Sheena _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
