Having lived in Bradford I know that there is a district called Manningham. It is possible that the abstractor of the information has not recorded the name of the City (Bradford) or that in 1881 Manningham was a village outside the City boundary. You may have to research the history of Bradford to clarify the situation. I lived in the area called Heaton which is the next district to Manningham and Heaton certainly had been a village outside the City boundary, but by the time I was living there 1975-1981 Heaton had been included within the City boudary. You need to find an old map of Bradford. Do hope this is all of some help. Has anyone access to gravestones for Creetown after 1855 please? I have just received a D.C. for James Whan who died at Harbour St.Jan 7th 1865. The certificate states that he is a farmer and widower of Agnes McKean. If there is a headstone I would be very interested to know whether other members of the family are also buried in the same plot or nearby. Carol

I have been - so I decided to do something about it. I have made an exhaustive search of the likely ranges of batch numbers for the British Isles and created a database of those numbers and the source records that they apply to. I have searched all the possible numbers in the ranges shown on my website. For each batch I extracted the church or chapel (if specified), town, county and country names of the first record that appears when it is called up in my browser. I then organised them by country and county and created a website. A very powerful feature that I have included is a hotlink from each batch number to the actual search engine provided at http://www.familysearch.org, including the ability to enter the surname you are looking for. This makes it very easy to search all the batches for a particular geographic location using just the last name you are searching for - something that is not possible directly from the LDS site without doing a lot of typing. It also connects towns that are listed in more than one county in the IGI which can sometimes be a problem causing you to lose a relly because you are looking across a county border!! I hope you will like it - please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements, enhancements, or new features that I might be able to implement. (oh yes - where is the site? - I wondered if you would ask that. - take a look at my signature line) Thanks Hugh Wallis Ontario, Canada Formerly of Surrey, UK IGI Batch numbers - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#Page Title.htm ==== CORNISH-GEN Mailing List ==== Search the List Archives: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?surname=CORNISH-GEN --part1_11a.c23a7a7.29a12b03_boundary--
Victoria, There are 2 places in Kirkcudbright called Mark(s). One is a farm just outside Twynholm, the other seems to be on the opposite side of the county. You can access these maps through the Kirkcudbright site on the web. I also had a ancestor from Mark, but it turned out that she was from the farm and not the village. It's been a long time since I was researching that particular line so my knowledge is not as exact as it should be. Hope that this helps. Marks is a farm I cut wood there a few yeas ago. Balmae was a big house which I helped to demolish in 1962 Alastair Dallas
I have read that illegitimate births are discussed in Kirk sessions. I would like to get a copy of the Kirk sessions in Kells that would cover a birth on Sept. 1, 1833, and a baptism on Nov. 4, 1833. I would appreciate it if anyone can recommend a researcher, or if I can write somewhere for a copy. I live in the U.S. and cannot go to Scotland for any research. Diane
go to the google search engine type in balmae Kirkcudbright and you will find what you require, same for Marks Hope this helps John ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 12, 2002 9:11 AM Subject: Place of Residence - Help Needed > Good morning > > I have received a proclamation of banns and marriages this morning, with > place of residence for bride and groom. Morning all I have received a death certificate this morning and there is no mothers name listed, only the fathers. There is a line drawn through, where you would put the mothers name. Does anyone know what this would mean. If there were no fathers name, then I would take it to mean that the father was unknown. Not sure about the mother. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks Victoria Germain
Good morning I have received a proclamation of banns and marriages this morning, with place of residence for bride and groom. They are MARKS and BALMAE. Can anyone tell me whether these would be small villages, or is place of residence actually the name of the house. The year is 1827 and is in the Parish of Kirkcudbright. Thanks Victoria
Hallo All After a long battle I have, with the help of a number of people on the Kirkcudbright and D & G list, managed to find a link to my ancestors in Scotland. I have found details of Robert Scott and Elizabeth McJore (later Mc George) and the birth on 29 Aug 1812 of their first child Isabella in Ruthwell. The next 5 children were all born and christened in Urr, Kirkcudbright. The sons' details are as follows: Andrew 27 Oct 1814 Robert 8 Apr 1817 Thomas 20 Feb 1820 Samuel 5 Feb 1829 William 19 Apr 1832 One of the five sons had a son Samuel who was born about 1842 - he emigrated to South Africa and married my Great Grandmother in 1879. I have not been able to find any details of the six children or their marraiges or details of their children in Scots Origins or the OPR's for Kircudbright or Dumfries . Is there anybody on the list who has any of the above persons in their Scott or McGeorge lines or anybody who knows of a person with interest in the SCOTT or McGEORGE families in Ruthwell or Dalbeattie/Urr? I would appreciate any information or assistance in this connection. Hello Sheena: I have checked out my GORDON database (descendants of Thomas GORDON 1670-1730 and Jane HOUSTON) and the only possible Agnes GORDON I can find is one born in 1799 at Borgue. She was a daughter of Thomas GORDON (b.c. 1752 died 7 April 1809) and Agnes PORTER (b.c. 1760 died 20 April 1842). Although there are Gordons at Balmaghie, I can't find a monumental inscription recorded for an Agnes GORDON in the pre 1855 records there. Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing of this Agnes' history, but if you should learn that she is the Agnes you are seeking, I'd be glad to hear from you as I can fill you in on siblings and earlier generations. Cheers, Jill
