Hello, Looking for more information about the William and James McEUNE/McEUEN/McEWEN families who were living in the Borgue area of Kirkcudbrightshire in 1824. Would they possibly be on the 1841 Census? William would have been about 70 and James about 68 if they were still alive. I'd appreciate information about any McEUNE?McEUEN/McEWENs in the Borgue area. They were sons of Alexander McEUNE and Helen JOLLY of Borgue Parish. Thanks for any help. Marg McEuen

Hello........... I am researching a William SMITH who left Colvend in 1774 at the age of 24 to settle on Prince Edward Island. He ended up in Pictou Nova Scotia where he owned and operated a mill on the West River. On this journey were several members of the WILSON family also from Colvend. They were Mary Wilson (age 50), William Wilson (age 23), John Wilson (age 21) and James Wilson (4months). I believe that these Wilsons and William Smith are relatives as the name Wilson turns up several times in William's grandchildren. Also in searching the batches from LDS for the parish of Colvend, I found a marriage record for an Anthony SMITH and a Marion WILSON from 1748. I am leaning toward the possibility that this might be William Smith's parents (following the Scotch pattern of naming where the first grandson is named for the paternal grandfather - William's eldest son was named Anthony). Is there anyone else researching a Smith or a Wilson family from the Colvend area? If so, would you be willing to share your information? Maggie wrote: > when using the IGI and entering a batch number, in this instance a > christening number and the surname > if I come up with three different fathers would they be related? > births are all in the same parish A Batch Number identifies a microfilm. Or occasionally two films. The film being a copy of many complete register pages. If you give me a Batch Number then I'll tell you the Microfilm number's it was sourced from. Example, Batch C048881 was derived from Film 569758. When you copy a relevant Batch Number that attaches to your family event/s you also are in company with a lot of other names, a mix of related and unrelated folk. Especially in rural villages where there are very few surnames, there is a risk you might "adopt" persons with no biological connection. A person's surname can be merely coincidental, not of your family. Take Care!! Cheers......... ALISTAIR

He was 22 years old, Ellen was 18. their usual place of residence was Meikle Tarbrax, Leswalt. Thomas parker McKie was a Ploughman. Ellen's parents were: Father, Andrew McGraw. Mother, Agnes McKillop. As far as I can see they lived in the Wigtown, Kirkcudbright area all their lives. All are buried in the Kirkcudbright cemetery. Dear Alison, I have an Elizabeth Gordon married George McLellan in the Parish of Tongland on 18 November 1823 and amongst other children, they had Alexander, born at Blackcraig 22 February 1832. Blackcraig is the name of a farm and it is in Borgue parish where most of my Gordons came from. Could this Alexander be the father of your John? I have a feeling there are other McLellands on my tree so I'll do some checking and see what I can find. Dear All: Here is the latest chapter from Burkes Peerage. There is becoming more recognition of the role that our Scottish Ancesters had on the USA history and even current events. These Scottish Ancesters had a large impact on the drafting of the constitution and the Bill of Rights etc. Anyway, here is the announcement and the location of the full article. Note that there are two chapters and you need to click on the bottom of the page to get to both chapters. Please feel free to forward to any other list or group that would be interested. Best Regards John A Hansen List Admin FROM BURKES PEERAGE AND GENTRY- AMERICAS SCOTTISH HEROES The second chapter of Burkes feature on Scottish Americans and their role in shaping US society is now online http://www.burkes-scotland.com In The Dollar to the Moon: Striving for Independence, Sarah Powell examines prominent Americans of Scottish descent, to show that people of Scottish ancestry wielded a disproportionate influence on life in America. The article highlights the major contribution of Scots colonialists in the push towards American Independence, pointing out that as many as three quarters of the fifty-six signatories of the Declaration of Independence were Scots born or had some Scottish ancestry. Indeed, Scottish influence continues right up to the present, as it is estimated that well over half of US Presidents to the present day have had some Scottish blood. Powell looks at the contributions of some of these presidents, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and Franklin Roosevelt. She looks also at Scottish military prowess and the numerous important revolutionary leaders of Scottish blood. Powells article shows that in making war as in forging peace and pursuing freedom and prosperity, Scottish Americans have played, and are continuing to play a vital role in American life. Dear Victoria, The line through the part of the death certificate where the mothers Maiden name should be, indicates that her name was unknown to whoever registered the death. The same could also be true if the line was where the fathers name should be. It is not uncommon, particular when the deceased died in old age, the informant may never have know the deceased's parents. Hope that makes sense, Regards, Erica Johnson. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 12, 2002 9:17 AM Subject: Death Certificate - Gordon JOHNSTON > Morning all > > I have received a death certificate this morning and there is no mothers name > listed, only the fathers.
