Hi I have been researching McRobert in Tongland and Kirkcudbright. If there is anyone else looking into this name please email. Regards Steve Wright
Hi all! Can anyone tell me if the 1861 census for Kirkcudbrightshire is indexed? If so could someone please have a look for a Robert CAMPBELL and family? He would be about 46 years old, his wife was called Marion (aged 45), and hopefully there will be a couple of daughters called Isabella and Georgina. Thank you very much in advance for any help. Sharon
Hello Listers, I wonder if you could help me. I am hoping to confirm the parents of Barbara BROWN. She was born in or near Creetown in about 1816 and married David LOGAN in 1846 at Tongland. I think Barbara's parents may have been Peter BROWN (a Master Mariner, who may have died early at sea) and Elizabeth RAMSAY (who may have re-married). With best wishes Sybil Cameron
Does anyone on the list have easy access to Buittle kirkyard records post 1855? The Stewartry M.I.s pre 1855 show, in grave 235, Thomas Gordon of Douganhill, Buittle and his family, but I really need to know what the graves either side (234 and 236) record as I am trying to track some missing Gordons. Any help will be much appreciated. Jill

Would sks with access to the Parton Census Records of 1841 see if there is an entry for Brown William Brown Isabella at Nether Arvie If so could I have their details, and information of other Browns at Nether Arvie? Regards Peter
Jill! You seem to have the Kirkcudbright Mis. You should look in Volume 4 No 20 in the Lairs for Kirkpatrick Durham and 18 for Kirkcudbright. There are many lairs containing GORDON. Indeed, in the 1600s and 1800s they were much connected with McCartney of McCartney (NOW Walton Park) My early ancestral line were McCartney of McCartney but GORDON used to own it at one time: Gordon was not connected to the McCartney, only the Mansion. Dear Listers: Seeking information on George McKie, who was born about 1830 in possibly Creetown, SCOT. He married Elizabeth UNK, born about 1830 in possibly Creetown, SCOT. They are found in the US 1880 Census for Clarksburg, Berkshire, Mass [Source: FHL Film 1254520 National Archives Film T9-0520, Page 402C], as follows: George MCKAY Self M M W 50 SCOT. Occ: Boot Maker Fa: SCOT. Mo: SCOT. Elizabeth MCKAY Wife F M W 50 SCOT. Occ: Keeping House Fa: ENG. Mo: SCOT. Elizabeth PAYE Dau F M W 23 NY Occ: At Home Fa: SCOT. Mo: SCOT. Calvin PAYE SonL M M W 24 MA Occ: Works In Shoe Factory Fa: MA Mo: MA Alie MCKAY Dau F S W 17 NY Occ: At Home Fa: SCOT. Mo: SCOT. Robert MCKAY Son M S W 12 NY Occ: At School Fa: SCOT. Mo: SCOT. William MCKAY Son M S W 10 MA Occ: At School Fa: SCOT. Mo: SCOT. I'm not sure what happened to these other children but I do know about James. James McKie was born November 19, 1855 in Creetown, SCOT, and died November 23, 1922 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. He married Adelaide Mitchell [date unknown as yet], daughter of Samuel Mitchell and Anna Robins [?]. She was born October 23, 1858 in Rockport, Essex Co., MA and died November 06, 1917 in Lanesville, MA. They had two children: Jennie B, b. 1880 in Gloucester and Samuel, b. 1882, Gloucester. I'm not sure if there are other children at this point. On James's naturalization papers, dated October 02, 1900, it gives the location in Scotland where he was born and his date of birth. His death certificate number #290, found in the Essex County archives, states that he had been living in the US for 53 years, which would have him here as early as 1869. His naturalization papers, however, state that he came here as a minor on April 18, 1872. James was a stone cutter by trade most of his natural born life and there were many quarries within one mile of his residence at the time of his death. Both he and his wife, Adelaide, are buried in Locust Grove Cemetery, Gloucester, MA. He was buried November 26, 1922 and she was buried November 09, 1917. Samuel McKie was born July 15, 1882 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA, and died August 16, 1957 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. He married Beluah C Marchant, daughter of Jeremiah Marchant and Mary Hilliard. She was born July 15, 1884 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA and died March 17, 1972 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. They had three children: Margaurite, b. May 11, 1907, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; d. Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; m. SOUZA; Ralph, Sr. and Elizabeth, b. June 29, 1921, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; d. March 18, 1998, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; m. Barney Guiseppe. Samuel was found in the Essex County VR Volume one, page 187, as being born on July 15, 1882 at 55 High Street to James McKie of Scotland and Addie Mitchell from Rockport. Beluah was found in the Essex County VR Volume two, page 12, as being born at 16 Rowe Street on July 15, 1884 to Jeremiah Marchant of Gloucester and Mary E. Hilliard of Rockport. Samuel death certificate is numbered #179 but Beluah information of death come from SSDI/family at present until they send me the death certificate. Samuel was buried on August 19, 1957, Locust Grove Cem., Gloucester and Beluah was buried in 1972, Locust Grove Cem., Gloucester. For most of his life, Samuel was a labourer for the fish industry; Beluah was a housewife. Ralph Orlando McKie, Sr was born February 02, 1908 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA, and died January 29, 2000 in Millersville, Anne Arundel Co., MD. He married Frances Emily Abrahamsen March 27, 1937 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA, daughter of Abraham Antonisen-Abrahamsen and Amalia Rassmusdatter-Abrahamsen. She was born December 25, 1908 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA and died September 14, 1993 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA. They had two children: Cynthia Remouf, b. June 11, 1940, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA; d. June 12, 1940, Gloucester, Essex Co., MA and Ralph Orlando McKie, Jr., b. 1942. I have not looked up Ralph in any census records as yet but Frances can be found in the 1920 census, dated January 06, 1920, for Gloucester City, Essex Co., MA; ED #34; Sheet 6A. Her birth certificate is filed under "No Name Abrahamson", filed on January 5, 1908, but this is even wrong. "Son" is Swedish; "Sen" is Norwegian--which was what the Abrahamsens were. ["sen" means "son of; "datter" means "daughter"] Ralph, Jr. is still alive but Cynthia wasn't so lucky. The death/birth certificate number 114, lists that she died of Intercranial Hemmorhage. If you listened to what Ms. Frances told you, it was a broken neck. Doctor broke it in delivery and it does say on the DC that death was caused by labor. Parents lived on 3 Green Street, Gloucester at the time of birth/death of Cynthia and were also listed parents as single at the time of Cynthia's birth/death but they were married. Place of burial was Locust Grove in Gloucester. Funeral home was W.S. Pike in Gloucester, Mass. Ralph lives in Maryland. I am the mother of his only grandchild--a son. Can anyone connect? Sincerely, Tina McKie-Simons Buckhannon, WV USA _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
Hello Listers, I am hoping to trace a marine / merchant / shipbuilding business which operated in Wigtown (or possibly Creetown?) between about 1795 and 1825. The owners of the business were Peter BROWN, Master Mariner, and Crawford LOGAN, anchor smith. Is there a commercial or trade index which may list such a business? With best wishes Sybil Cameron
Dear All: While this is a Scotland List , many of the ancestors left here to go to the Colonies and start a new life. They maintained their interest in Scotland and also made a great impact on the founding of the New United States of America. Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution ( DAR) have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones commonly used by the search engines. The process is fairly simple : Go to the DAR message board: There are two ways to do that: > www.rootsweb.com > message boards > topics > organizations and societies > DAR Or if you want the easy way :-) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar Address your message as follows: subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates ( put your data in this format) In the body of the message put the information regarding the person. Please put one search per post please. Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search engine will be keying on that item. Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request. We really appreciate their efforts. This info can be key for: a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR) b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were submitted and the information they have available. Many thanks to: Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup for organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing their own ancestors, Best Regards John A Hansen DAR board admin. BTW: Please forward this message to other lists and boards that each of you are involved in. A word of thanks to each volunteer that does this work and especially the one that responds to your post would probably be highly appreciated. JAH
Hello Listers, Would a kind soul be able to help me in my search for the Logan family. David LOGAN was born in about 1801 in or near Creetown. His father's name was possibly Crawford LOGAN and David may have had a brother named William. David Logan married Barbara [unknown] who was born in Scotland in about 1816. Before or after the marriage, they moved to Liverpool where David was a merchant and/or an anchorsmith. Their son David Crawford LOGAN was born in Liverpool in about 1848 and he became a Cotton Broker. Their only other child I know of was Mary Elizabeth LOGAN who was born about 1855; and married in 1885 to George Edward WHITE. If the names Crawford LOGAN or David LOGAN sound familiar, I'd love to hear from you! All the best Sybil Cameron

Our family descends from their son Andrew. It is said in Andrew's obituary, here in the states, that he was born in Kirkmabreck but having viewed the church records, I cannot locate his birth, though I have found some of his siblings. A sister, Margaret Welsh Muir, was born in 1839 and it looks like they lived at BALHAPIE, within the Kirkabreck parish. Is this familiar to anyone? (Either the place or the family) Where did Hugh and Eliz. come from? What other parishes should I look at? I can add that Hugh and Eliz. and children all left Scotland for the states and settled in Michigan in 1851. Any help would be so appreciated!
