    1. LAURIESTON
    2. RALPH LAURIESTON or any surname sounding like that is who I am looking for. I do not have a birthdate or any other information about him other than the fact that he had a son, THOMAS born July 1847. When Thomas was married in March of 1868 Ralph was deceased. Would someone kindly check census, etc. for years between 1825 through 1868 for anything about Ralph? Thank you, Deborah in North Carolina, USA

    1. HALLIDAY, KETLEY, WELSH
    2. Sylvan Scale Models
    3. Hi I am still stuck with my HALLIDAY family--very little to go on, and common names at that! Richard HALLIDAY and Jane KETLEY (dau of John) were married? lived common law?? had two (or more??) children: Agnes, born 1843 Archibald, Born 1446 Jane KETLEY then has a son with Morris WELSH in 1851, named George Jane KETLEY has a daughter, (Margaret I think), which bore the KETLEY surname Archibald left Scotland sometime before 1871 census date, as he is listed as living at the Chelsea Barracks with soldier as his occupation. He married later that year, and as far as I can tell did not return to Scotland. However, I have not found his death in England, and his wife and children were living in a workhouse in 1879. Perhaps he did return to Scotland??? Anyone find a death for an Archibald HALLIDAY after 1879? Archibald was my great grandfather. In the 1881 census, we find the family as such: George WELSH, head Jane KEIGHTLEY, mother to head Agnes HALLIDAY, sister to head and another girl (forget the name, can't find my note!) who is listed as niece to head-with HALLIDAY as her surname--illegitimate child of Agnes perhaps? Age of the two is appropriate for mother/daughter Then, nothing of any of them. I have no birth or death or marriage for Richard HALLIDAY, No death for Jane KETLEY (HALLIDAY?? WELSH??). Same for Agnes--so many of them, hard to tell who is who. Any information or suggestions (other than Scots Origins; I don't have a credit card) where to look for information appreciated! Take care, Cindy Gilbert

    1. 1841 Scotland Free Census Project
    2. Jennifer Gribble
    3. I am excited to announce the launch of the Scotland Free Census project. This is part of the larger UK Free Census project (aka FreeCEN) that aims to transcribe ALL the UK 19th century census returns to create an online 'free-to-view' database. We have a project covering the 1841 returns for Ayrshire and would like to recruit organizers to cover the rest of the 1841 Scottish returns. Organizers recruit and supervise a team of volunteers to transcribe a county or part of a county. The area you cover is up to you. To be an organizer, you just need some time, a computer and access to a microfilm or microfiche reader. This is a global on-line project for ordinary family historians who are interested in contributing to their hobby. If, like us, you believe that this information should be freely available and available for free, just drop me a line at [email protected] More information on the project can be found at: http://www.speakeasy.org/~jgribble/scotland.html Thank you, Jennifer Gribble P.S. I am unable to monitor this list very frequently so please email me directly with any questions. 3. Hi Jill & list, Jill, I think you might be onto something here as I remember looking at my grandfather's, (Robert JOHNSTONE) birthday book many years ago and I noted that he had many GORDON names listed under certain months but no dates! Also was excited to see the Mary JOHNSTONE you had listed 1811-1851 that married Thomas GORDON, as I have a Mary JOHNSTONE b.April 16/1811 d.August 6/1851, thinking this must be the same Mary! Mary is my gr. gr. aunt from Dumfries, her parents being Christopher JOHNSTONE b. 1776 Dumfries & Winifred Maxwell GRAINGER b. 1784 (my 3rd. great grandparents). Mary had 8 other siblings; James JOHNSTONE b. 1807 Dumfries d. Jan.5/1808 Sibella Grainger JOHNSTONE b.June 7/1809 Dumfries, m. James WALKER in 1833, d.Sept.6/1870 Mary JOHNSTONE b.April 16/1811 d. 2. Jill Dakin
    3. Because Winifred is not a common name for KKD, and noting the GORDON in Thomas Gordon WALKER's entry, I am wondering whether Gloria's Christopher JOHNSTONE and Winifred Maxwell GRAINGER might be connected to two brothers who appear on my tree. Thomas GORDON born 1809 and James GORDON born 1810 in Tongland, were sons of William GORDON and Jane SPROAT. Thomas, who died 14 July 1861, married Mary JOHNSTONE (1811-1851) and had Jane GORDON b.c. 1838, died 15 August 1860 at Douganhill, Buittle, and William GORDON, b.c. 1844 in England, and died 31 March 1917 at Palnackie, Buittle. William married Margaret L. WILSON. Thomas and Mary are buried at Buittle and all this information was gleaned from the M.I. there. James married ? and had these children: Christopher GORDON b.c. 1839 in England Winifred GORDON b.c. 1841 in England Sibella GORDON b.c. 1843 in England William GORDON b.c. 1845 in England In the 1861 census at Douganhill, Parish of Buittle, I found: James GORDON/51/farmer 500 acres/widower/born Tongland Christopher GORDON/22/son/England Winifred GORDON/20/daughter/born England Sibella GORDON/18/daughter/born England William GORDON/16/son/born England + others, including two WILSON nephews, both born London. Surely there must be a connection to Gloria's lot here somewhere. Can anyone help? Cheers, Jill

    3. HELLO, im looking for infor on JAMES MAXWELL,as follows: the baptism,James Maxwell,on Sept.2,1768,natural son of Thomas Maxwell and Mary Holiday. The second. the marriage proclamation,of 29th April,1775 that William Clouden and Mary Holiday were married at Old Clouden Farm. Thus we see that Mary Holiday had a son James Maxwell by an out-of-wedlock relationship with one Thomas Maxwell, When this son James Maxwell was four and one-half years old Mary Holiday was married to William Clouden(later changed to Mcleod). Robert Clouden was born,Jan,19,1774,the following year on making him the first child of this marriage.(he is my ggggg grandfather) James MAxwell's father was Thomas MAxwell, and in one of the letters mentions that his grandfathers name was also Thomas MAxwell. James MAxwell married Janet Dawson, possibly had several children, though this isn't clear to us yet. However, they did have a daughter Sarah Maxwell, who married John Edgar anyone reaseaching these names could you please contact me i m willing to share info i have and if possible if any photos of them you might have tks.in advance andrea
