If he was, why not have a look at www.carstairs.org.uk/masonic/guide/address.html and you will find a list of all the Masonic Lodges in Scotland, (Note the number on the left is the number of the Lodge) To make enquiry regarding your ancestor all you have to do is write to The Lodge Secretary at the name and address listed and he should be able to check the Roll Book and give you the following information;- 1. Name and address at date of joining 2. Occupation 3. Age 4. Date he received his various degrees (1st or Entered Apprentice, 2nd or Fellowcraft, 3rd or Master Mason and Mark Master Mason) 5. Offices held by him in the Lodge. 6. Some Lodges may also be able to tell who Proposed and Seconded your ancestor. If the Lodge you are looking for is not listed, do not despair, when a Lodge goes defunct their books etc are retained by the Grand Lodge of Scotland and you should direct your enquiries to them at [email protected] This site also gives you limited information regarding Royal Arch Masonry and has links to the Grand Lodge of Scotland and other Masonic Organisations.
