Hi Rosemary, Although I can't help with your Census queries, I do have a copy of "Pre-1855 Gravestone Inscriptions: An Index for Kincardineshire (The Mearns)" edited by Alison Mitchell, 1986. The Laurencekirk cemetery contains no entries for MAT(T)HEWSONs. In fact, there are only a couple of entries for MAT(T)HEWSONs in all 29 Kincardineshire cemetries indexed in this publication both of which are in cemetries fairly distant from Laurencekirk: Fetteresso Kirkyard #347 1863. by Wm Donald tenant in Bridge of Leppie died Redmyre 11.7.1874 79, wife Ann Mackie 28.3.1863 54, 2nd son William 9.4.1861 24, 5th daughter Elsie Watson 6.11.1869 18, 4th son Alexander 27.5.1873 30, 3rd daughter Margaret 29.4.1904 58 (husband Alexander Mathewson tenant in Mansefield died 18.11.1894 76, his sister Janet Mathewson 21.8.1897 89) Maryculter, New Kirk #16 coped stone. by Sarah Stewart in memory of father Rev. Unfortunately, none of these are close to Laurencekirk. However, if you want the details about any or all of them please contact me off list: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=kcoull&I11.x=31&I11.y=9 Ken Coull
Hi Ken, I have family from Kincardine is this index you have online or is this something that takes you much typing to respond to queries? I am particularlly interested in Gerard as Alexander Gerard and Janet Irvine buried in Fetteresso are top of that line. John Gerard is the father and I found their grave in Fetteresso and the grave for Alexander Gerard and Isabel Lindsay where Alexander was born in 1738 (possibly a brother or of the same family as my John Gerard b abt 1733) Gordon McLeod Calgary, Alberta descenant of these Kincardine families Burness (share same ancestors as Robbie Burns (or Burness)), Mollison, Gerard, Murray, Scot(t) Fetteresso, Fordoun, Glenbervie, Marykirk, Arbuthnott -----Original Message----- From: Ken Coull [mailto:kcoull@shaw.ca] Sent: Saturday, September 11, 2004 10:12 AM To: SCT-KINCARDINE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCT-KINCARDINE] MAT(T)HEWSON MIs Pre-1855 Kincardineshire Hi Rosemary, Although I can't help with your Census queries, I do have a copy of "Pre-1855 Gravestone Inscriptions: An Index for Kincardineshire (The Mearns)" edited by Alison Mitchell, 1986. Hello Listers Does anyone have the 1881 census for Scotland (Kincardineshire/Aberdeenshire) & would look for these people please? Alexander MATHEWSON aged about 63, (?tenant in Mansefield) & his wife Margaret MATHEWSON aged about 35. Also Janet MATHEWSON aged about 73. (Alexander & Margaret were married in Laurencekirk & buried in Fetteresso Kirkyard, so I guess they'd be found somewhere in those areas.) Thankyou Rosemary in Western Australia
