Hello Listers, I would like to introduce myself to the list. I am pleased that there are many connections to Fordoun as it is such a small place. My ancestors lived there (Fordoun) at the time of the 1861 census. James JOLLY and wife Charlotte MITCHELL ran a farm. Their son, William JOLLY was a blacksmith. The JOLLY family come from Arbuthnott and the MITCHELLs from Kineff. If anyone has any connections with these families or has any information on the surnames or places, I would be very pleased to hear from you. Best wishes to all, Emma Jolly. --------------------------------- Win a BlackBerry device from O2 with Yahoo!. Enter now.
Hello Emma, I have a family connection with Fordoun, My Kydd family lived there for some time. Samuel Kydd was the farmer at "Whiteriggs" Fordoun, and in the 1841 census is living there with his family, employing 2 family servants and 6 Agricultural workers with their families.. Samuel Kydd died in 1843 . and his family moved out from "Whiteriggs" His widow Isobel Anderson moved into Allardyce Castle where her son John Kydd ran a farm of 280 acres, she died in 1860 age 95. A daughter of Samuel and Isobel moved to Laurencekirk, presumably when her husband, Charles Bayne died in Dundee in the 1820's.. She ran some sort of business in this little township, and not very successfully, as her will of June 1838 shows book debts owing to her of 92 pounds fourteen shillings and ninepence... ..which were never paid..... amongst the list of debtors there is the name of David JOLLY who was in debt to her for 14 shillings and threepence halfpenny...... Laurencekirk is close by to Fordoun.... I notice in the listings of burials at Fordoun Churchyard. number 150...."A memorial by Mrs. Buchan 24.9.1892 79 in memory of husband Wm Buchan "mert here" 4.12.1834 age 46 son Wm12.8.1841 1 yr, Robt. 8.11.1847 8 y, John died Glasgow 30.3.1875. 32, Jane 19.4.1887 40, (widow of JAS JOLLY int at Carlow Ireland) s Jas "mert" 3.2.1920 79 (w Susan Buchan 28.11.1937 85). I hope the above information is of interest. Best wishes to you and all members of this list.
