I seem to have hit a brick wall trying to trace the ancestors of Janet Scorgie. Married in Aberdeen in 1834 to Alexander Mutch, she appears on the 1881 census as being born in Rothnich, Kincardineshire around 1806. I have managed to trace many of her descendants, but haven't been able to either confirm her death (she was still alive at the time of her son George's death in 1889) or find her parents. Has anyone heard of Rothnich? It doesn't appear in Google or on multimap searches. Alternatively does anyone have access to any earlier censuses for the area which may confirm her birthplace. The IGI shows two Janet Scorgies born in Kincardine around the correct period, both in Fetteresso. Are there any land or poll tax records available for the early 1800s?
