I am trying to find out information about my gg grandfather who was John Ramsay GOUCK, GOUK, GOUGH or GOCHE (depending on which document you read). In some his given name is simply Ramsay. He lived in Arbroath in the mid 1850s and was a sailor. I know that in 1857 his ship was somewhere in America and a family story says that he spent some time in the South African gold mines. My g gandfather was Alexander Webster GOUGH. He was born in Banchory in 1856 and his mother was Margarte FINDLAY. I cannot find any marriage documents though. I know that Alexander stayed in Stonehaven for a while with his grandfather Charles FINDLAY and had a cousin named William GELLATLY. I would appreciate any information on the above families.
