Hi Bruce, This may or may not be of any use, here goes. I have a William Muckart marrying a Lavinia Austin Hampton in Brechin in 1871. They appear on the 1881 census living at 44 St David Street, in Brechin but William is dead by the time they appear on the next census in 1891. Strangely enough they are listed living just two doors down at 46 St. David Street, Brechin. William died in 1890. Lavinia's father is in the house on the day of the '91 census and his birth parish is listed as Fettercairn. His age is given as 83 or 85. That would give him a birth date of about 1808-10. It is just possible he could be a relative of your Hamptons. I also have Smiths marrying into the Muckart family, but I will have to hunt for the info. Happy New Year.
