    1. Virus Protection a la RootsWeb!
    2. Jaguar
    3. Just received from central command. Appearing here with the permission of list administrators only. Maybe we can all get back to the task at hand and belay the virus memos. I hope this will end the on-going discussion of where the responsibility lies. We are all on our own...act accordingly. Subject: Re: [Fwd: Abuse (Chris #85786)] (fwd) (Chris #86837) Date: Sun, 20 May 2001 10:29:40 -0600 From: RootsWeb HelpDesk <[email protected]> "RootsWeb simply does not have a focus of virus education," "There are plenty of places on the internet which disseminate anti-virus information." "Mailing List administrators set the rules and tone of their individual lists -- if you break the rules, you are at risk for being banned. Administrators are aware of, and have the authority, to remove any list subscribers who are infected with a virus. You are free to contact other list subscribers privately, but there you run the risk of being the sender of unwanted and unrequested mail. A recipient can report you to the list admin, and more importantly, to their ISP as a spammer in that case. Then, you run the risk of losing email privileges entirely. So, as much as your efforts to educate are good-hearted, the bottom line is that RootsWeb mailing lists are simply not the place for you to act." ---------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright © 2001 Alan kemp Dempster, Ontario, Canada You are guaranteed honest advice and a person of Christian integrity.
